Hairspray Sing-A-Long (NY kick off- Aug 1)

As a kick-off to the Sing-A-Long Hairspray prints hitting 30+ select cities August 3 (I do not know which cities yet -sorry) The movie will have an event screening Wednesday in NYC.

Hairspray Myspace:

Attention Myspacers!!! You are invited to a screening of Hairspray- sing-a-long edition!

WHAT: We are releasing special edition prints of Hairspray with sing along tracks for audience participation. Before we send these prints to the theatres, we're giving MySpacers a chance to belt out 'Good Morning Baltimore' or 'You Can't Stop the Beat' with the cast! Nikki Blonsky and Elijah Kelly will be there to introduce the film and sing along!

LOL! Anyone who prints these things out and stands in line for hours after the last fiasco deserves whatever happens to them!

And why, oh why are they ruining this film in it's 3rd week of general release with a "sing along" version? I don't want to hear a bunch of off-key singers at the movies.

At least they waited for decades to do this to "The Sound of Music". It's impossible to find a non-singing theatrical showing of that film anymore so I just watch the DVD. When can we expect the "Hairspray" DVD? I'm not going to go to the movies to see it again if I have to be subjected to the sing along crowd. I thought chattering people and cell phone talkers were bad but this takes the cake. Can't people just watch a film without having to participate in a sing along? OY!!!!

I dont think the sing-a-long will replace ALL prints at those select theatres.

Its just to go - and have fun and be silly.

The Hairspray DVD is expected to be out this holiday season.

since it says 30+ cities across the country, it's probably safe to assume that there will only be one theatre per city that actually plays the singalong version. in sf, i wouldn't be surprised if it's one of the downtown theatres (century in the mall, or the amc in the metreon). jimnysf, maybe it'll even end up in emeryville, and you won't have to worry at all. :)

Anyone on here going to try and go tonight? It sounds like fun, I wasn't planning on seeing Hairspray again in the theatre but I do like singalongs, and free, but after hearing everyone's stories about the last Hairspray screening I don't know that I wanna chance it only to be told that this myspace pass is invalid or something...


Maybe I'll see if I can get one of those special blue tickets with pink polka dots that millie mentioned upthread. :)
