Looks cool. I love pretty much and movie about the 60's, so I'm sure I'll like this.
"If we don't live happily ever after at least we survive until the end of the week!"
-Kermit the frog"I need the money... it costs a lot to look this cheap!" -Dolly P."Oh please, Over at 'Gypsy' Patti LuPone hasn't even alienated her first daughter yet!" Mary Testa in "Xanadu""...Like a drunk Chita Rivera!" Robin de Jesus in "In the Heights"
"B*tch, I don't know your life." -Xanadu
After that if he still doesn't understand why you were uncomfortable and are now infuriated, kick him again but this time with Jazz Hands!!! -KillerTofu
Well, I have actually seen it if anyone has any questions...
They did a select screening (I am not special, just lucky) last fall and I saw it then. LOVED IT and I am pretty picky.
They DI NOT rip off bread and puppet theatre, considering that Julie Taymor studied with them and even put them in the film. last I heard it's not a rip-off if then one doing it is the original. Just saying.
There is a plot, a good one. I just hope they fixed the weird animation-type sequences. Anyway, let me know if you wanna know anything.
I figure it will either be really, really good or really, really bad. And I love the Beatles as much as I love musicals, so I'm hoping that it's not the latter.
Jimmy, what are you doing here in the middle of the night? It's almost 9 PM!
I wouldn't say they're "hiding" the fact that it's a musical. The main trailer for the film shows the lead character "Jude" singing DIRECTLY to the camera-- in the opening shot. And it's more than two seconds... Also, lots of dancing in the trailer too.
Another "promo" trailer (shown on video projection before the actual trailers start) features a LOT more actual singing by the cast. Updated On: 8/13/07 at 12:09 PM
Although I do cringe every time I hear them singing "Hey Jude" about an actual character NAMED Jude, it still looks way cool!
especially Julie's crazy fantasy-sequencey-thingys. those look AMAZING
"Picture "The View," with the wisecracking, sympathetic sweethearts of that ABC television show replaced by a panel of embittered, suffering or enraged Arab women" -the Times review of Black Eyed
yay! In the picture posted at the start of this thread, that's one of my best friends in between ms.wood and the lead guy. haha. he was an extra! this is fun!
""the gays love their presents. just wave something shiny in front of their faces, you can get whatever you want. Thats how we got manhattan from the gay indians" -Karen (W&G)"
Saw the film last week.It begins with a lad from Liverpool, looking for his father. The music of course is faultless and overall I really liked it.But one or two of the musical numbers, didn't quite work for me. Some of them are very theatrical. May be difficult to sell to the average film goer. But not to be missed. Watch out for terrific cameo performance of 'Come Together'
I'm excited to play "spot the random Broadway actor" in the background during this movie, haha. I know Orfeh is playing a hooker in it and there's a handful of other NYC theatre actors in the cast, too.
I think it's pretty cool that a lot of the characters are named after beatles songs. Desmond, Molly, Lucy, Jude, Patience. I can not believe there people on here writing that they don't like beatles music? but I guess to each his own.
This movie looks really interesting. Like someone said above, it's either going to be really good or really bad. I hope it's really good, because I love the Beatles music. I want to go see this one with my mom - she was a Beatles fanatic in her day, lol.
>>I think it's pretty cool that a lot of the characters are named after beatles songs. Desmond, Molly, Lucy, Jude, Patience.
Really? Because that makes me barf. One of the worst things about it. When I first saw the trailer online a few months ago I cringed when I heard the leads' names were Lucy and Jude. Oh GOD! And I don't think Patience is in a song, maybe you mean Prudence? Anyway, I and everyone in my four Beatle Yahoo groups are appalled. It's heresy and blasphemy, and this is coming from a very progressive person. That anyone could look at this and think it looks good blows my freaking mind. Blatant rip off on Moulin Rouge (the shot of "is there anybody going to listen to my story" (("girl")) could easily be "there was a boy..."(("nature boy"))) and an absolutely cheap, hackneyed, simplistic, over-simplified and stereotypical vision of the sixties.
