CHRISTINE WILL NOT LOSE!!! Why would you want her to lose, people?! She's worked very hard and gives a knock-out performance. I've been seeing shows for 20 years and have NEVER seen anything like her performance. We all have our favorites (me too). However, I know people who hate the show who say she's fantastic.

^ If Bundy won I actually would laugh harder then I ever have in my entire life. It would be SO insane that my anger wouldnt be as strong as the insane hillarity going on.
Biggest upset ever: "And the Tony for best actor in a musical goes to.... Samuel Jackson! For Snakes on a plane!"
Pierce over Esparza. Actually, I'm sure even if this does happen, there will be a bigger surprise; I just can't pick it. (Not that I necessarily want that...so many great performances, i don't know what I want! ahh!)
Though I could see Boyd taking it over Frank, good call.
And for the record, I think there are quite a few locks-- Utopia for lighting, costumes, and set, Mary Poppins for set...
In terms of the awards CBS actually shows (ulgh), I really can't imagine ANY show taking revival over Journey's End--I think JE is a lock for best play revival.
"If there was a Mount Rushmore for Broadway scores, "West Side Story" would be front and center. It snaps, it crackles it pops! It surges with a roar, its energy and sheer life undiminished by the years" - NYPost reviewer Elisabeth Vincentelli
"I dont think Wilson is exactly a lock. I can see Karen Ziemba taking Supporting Actress from her, quite possibly."
They are both giving great performances, but Wilson's is much showier, and she's quite a bit older than Ziemba and doesn't yet have a Tony. Ziemba does. It's pretty unlikely Wilson will lose it. The lead actress category is more tricky because there are three highly acclaimed performances this year. Any one of them could take it, or, as was mentioned in another thread, they could split the votes and Monk could walk away with it.

Personally, I can totally see Audra pulling an upset. Great performance, fresher in voters' minds, has never won for Leading Actress, and can make Tony history. All things that could work in her favor.
To me, a surprise would be something that's completely unexpected -- so with the leading men, I certainly wouldn't call Hyde Pierce winning a surprise. A bit of an upset? Perhaps. But not a surprise, as it is certainly within the predictable realm of possibility. Surprising (and disturbing) would be say, Groff winning.
As has been said in numerous other threads by a few of us, the "upset" to *some* would be Orfeh taking home Featured. Sorry Rath but if that statue goes to anyone other than Wilson (and it's always a possibility), it's going to Orfeh, not Ziemba. I know this will put about 5 posters in to a tailspin but it could, (as could all the other possible upsets) happen. Personally (and again, I'm being repetitive), I'd love to see Audra and Orfeh take the Tony home instead of the GG ladies and I'm far from being alone with my sentiment.
Patrick Pacheco(sp) said it very plainly on Theater Talk when asked if he thought Orfeh could win, I'm quoting loosly but it was something to the effect of, "sure she could, she's nominated" which applies to everyone. If they're nominated, it's anyones game and unless you're all going to hover over the 700plus voters heads while they're checking boxes, none of us have any control.
Oooh, chastised by the amazingly talented Rath, I feel so uber special right now. Rath, please don't you have a BWW hiatus coming up soon? Or are you going to drive all the good ones away again before you go? And if you insist upon spreading any more of your "wisdom" and corrections on me, do it via pm, unless of course you need an audience, which I suspect you do.
I'll answer Rath, KAREN ZIEMBA RULES AND SHE'S WINNING EVERYTHING and ORFEH SUCKS!! Feel better? Of course you're right, you always are and you know best about all there is to know and you're an indispensible part of Broadway and every producer who ever lived and know people in every production running and are BFF with every Broadway "star" there is, that is of course, when you're not selling pharmaceuticals and basically, we are all pawns at your lovely feet. How dare any of us have any opinions when you're around to dispel nothing but FACTS.
Folks, this has turned into who we WANT rather than who we think really WILL win. (And it's turned rather nasty and sniping.) I doubt Audra will win solely to 'make history' as someone put it. (Still say her best case scenario is a tie. The reviews Christine received were incredible and she's gotten every other award practically. Sure, I have my biases. But, I also read reviews and follow theater carefully. This is not an unrealistic prediction, nor am I trying to snipe or wish Audra ill.)
