His predictions are pretty accurate in my opinion. The only ones I am not 100% sold on are leading actor, where I feel Brian F. O'Byrne will get a nod, and revival of a play, where I feel as though some of the nominators might have liked Heartbreak House more than Translations.

Guess he didn't get any info on the Best Leading Actor in a Musical category.
I liked this column, especially the matzo balls joke.

There's not much room in the leading actor/musical category.

I understood it to look like this:

Raul Esparza
David Hyde Pierce
Gavin Lee
Martin Short
Michael Cerveris

BJH: I don't think O'Byne will get nominated. He's great, but he's reached his saturation point. Time to sit this one out.

And I firmly believe that TRANSLATIONS will get the nod over HEARTBURN HOUSE.

I actually wish he had tackled the featured acting nominations for musicals a bit more, those are a bit more complicated as usual, I think.
Munk, your leading actor list looks like the definite one but I still don't think Short is a shoo-in.

Munk I also agree with the leading actor list, and I agree with Short. The questionable one I think is Gavin Lee. Sure he was great, but will he be remembered as leading? I wonder if someone like Jonathan Groff, Hadley Fraser, or Brian Darcy James will take his spot.

As for my two thoughts above, I just mean I am not 100% sold. I don't think it will necessarily turn out the way I predicted, but I am just saying I won't be surprised if it happens.

I feel like Riedel's predictions for Featured Actor in a Play look the most out to lunch. Nick Berg Barnes for Journey's End?? I know it's still kind of early in the morning, but I don't even remember who he played! And two actors for the long closed Translations? No Billy Crudup? No Anthony Chisholm? Even though I didn't care for him all that much, no Steven Kunkin for Frost/Nixon?

his predictions do sound pretty accurate, but im not really sure how credible he is if he said he's "spoken to several nominators - usually in various parking garages around Manhattan in the dead of night". haha, oh dear

but anyways, im really curious about the LOVEMUSIK and LEGALLY BLONDE bit. im pulling for LEGALLY BLONDE just so ill be able to say i saw all 4 best musical nominees before they were...nominated, haha (thats never happened to me before). yeah, i cant wait for Tuesday

I'm sure Riedel has spoken with plenty of people on the nominating committee. It would be interesting to do a study to determine who is better equipped psychologically to keep secrets - a group of eleven-year-old girls or a group of theater professionals. (I think the 11 year old girls would win.)

It's been said frequently that if Legally Blonde got nominated it would probably win the Best Musical Tony, but it will have a difficult time being nominated. Riedel's column seems to confirm that.

I agree on Nick Berg Barnes, mabel. I'm a huge JOURNEY'S END fan, and I have no idea who this man played. Stark Sands? Yes. John Ahlin? Yes. Nick Berg Barnes? Who?

I find it hard to believe that the mixed-negative reviewed INHERIT THE WIND, or TALK RADIO -- which has only one thing going for it: Liev Schreiber -- would take the Revival slot of the critically lauded HEARTBREAK HOUSE, which was theatre at its finest.

Riedel also said in his predictions last season that Edward Hibbert was a sure thing for THE DROWSY CHAPERONE; and earlier this season he said that Michael Arden and Thom Sesma were sure things for THE TIMES THEY ARE A-CHANGIN'.

God I hope Riedel is wrong on this. TRANSLATIONS picking up two supporting actors? WHAT? and you are totally right about Journey's End and Nick Berg Barnes. Who the heck did he play? Is the Tony committee that lost that they would rob Billy Crudup, Anthony Chisolm, Stephen Kunken (who I loved), their well deserved nods to shower the snoozefest, long dead revival of Translations with two nods. Please Tony committee...if you have some extra spots to spare after these three...how about Stark Sands (who actually deserves a nod) and then John Earl Jelks.

And I hope he's right. Translations stands right alongside Journey's End as one of the best reviewed plays of the season. Niall Buggy and Susan Lynch were eminently worthy of nomination, and if Chandler Williams was also nominated, I wouldn't complain.

Disagree with him about "Coram Boy" not getting a nod- Obviously, he knows better than I do, but will the comm
really nominate TWO shows that are closed? ("Utopia" and "LDL")

Granted, the reviews were mainly negative for "Coram", but I still think it gets the nod over "LDL" - JMHO

and i hope they give the 4th slot to LoveMusik so Blonde can't try and buy their way into a win. please please PLEASE don't make us pink our way through an awards ceremony

I think it's hysterical that the Tony Nominators actually think about things like "We better not nomininate Legally Blonde or it might win!"

Think about how ridiculous that is!

Just as ridiculous as a whole chunk of Tony voters not voting for which musical they feel deserves the title of "Best" Musical, and instead voting for the show that will make them the most money on the road.

I have an odd feeling that "Legally Blonde" will be nominated but won't win. The nomination will get them a performance on the show and people will see it. So if and when it tours, people will know about it and won't care what it did or didn't win. People already know the movie. Just my thoughts.

Just give the world Love.

his predictions are pretty perfect in my mind. And i don't think that LB will get the nomination. Mary Poppins will beat them out.
