From their FAQ about it:

Q: Who are these people, anyway?
A: We sent a survey to a random group of recent Broadway.com ticket purchasers and scoured hundreds of responses for interesting jobs, funny comments and genuine passion for shows, narrowing the group down two more times before settling on our final group of 12. They range in age from six to 73 and have all kinds of jobs and interests. We think you’ll like them.

Q: How did they get picked and I didn’t? I want free tickets too!
A: Have you purchased a ticket from Broadway.com recently? We love our customers, and always appreciate hearing their views. The best way we could think to reflect our users’ opinions was to ask them. So, our advice? Just keep seeing shows, spreading the word on your favorites, and maybe next year you can be a Word of Mouth participant!


Personally, I don't think that's a good way to get a panel because real theatre aficionados wouldn't buy from broadway.com (because of their high charges).

They may have high prices on individual tickets, but they are AMAZING for group tickets.
