I didn't know the limited edition numbers were hand-written on. I like that.

I'm a new poster to BWW and I am more of a reader than poster but has anyone noticed the small error on the inside of the vinyl? Under each of the songs, they have the "actor" who sings it (i.e. Jane Roberts, Beatrice Stockwell, etc.) but under the song Accident Waiting to Happen, they accidentally put the character's name Robert Martin rather than the actor's name Percy Hyman. Just a little observation.

Yes I noticed that as well. I didn't think much of it. Anyone know if there are still records at the theatre? Anyone think they will be available for this Sat matinee?

How pissed off should we be that the limited pressing of 1000 items is now in its less limited second pressing? I shouldn't be surprised, but can anyone say false advertising??

I wasnt thrilled that they were going to add another pressing but I just noticed that it doesn't mention anything about being numbered. So, at least the original 1000 will be different than this lot.

It still pisses me off. I sent an email off to the company - let's see what kind of response I get.

It says "Limited Edition Vinyl Cast Recording" on the website.

Everyone who bought a limited edition numbered item should send an email to the company complaining that we've been suckered into paying a premium for something that is not limited at all.

It may simply be a matter of failing to remove what was already on the website before, but under "about the vinyl" it still says:

"Just like the album the “Man In Chair” has in The Drowsy Chaperone, we’ve pressed 1000 limited edition vinyl records! The vinyl comes complete with lyrics, full color production photos, and a CD of the vinyl version which includes dialogue not heard on the Drowsy Chaperone Original Cast Recording in stores! Each album is individually numbered, get your limited edition copy before they’re all gone!"

Got a quick response and while I appreciate that, the answer sucks:

These are not part of the original 1000, not numbered. They are marked as 2nd pressing.

- Noah

So the company got 1000 people to pay a premium, advertising it as a limited edition, subject to a limited pressing of 1000 and now, because they are greedy a-holes, decide to press more. Totally unacceptable.

Another email response sent after I told them that I want my money back:

The 2nd pressing is not numbered, the first pressing were limited to 1000, and numbered. We’re not numbering the 2nd pressing, there are only 1000 of the numbered albums from the initial, limited edition pressing. The 2nd pressing doesn’t reference Limited Edition, we modified the artwork such that the limited 1000 would remain unique. If you still wish to return the 3 numbered items you have, let me know and we’ll take them back and refund your money.

Let me know.

Wow, that really sucks! Although I didn't purchase one of the Drowsy vinyls, I am a collector of other stuff. I would go through the ceiling if this happened with something that I had. The WHOLE point of making something a "limited edition" is to increase the demand. To then use "high demand" as an excuse for making more is ridiculous.

Had the initial run NOT been advertised as a "limited edition," or had it been made clear that another non-numbered pressing would be made, customers could have made a more well-informed decision. And frankly, if the price is the same for the 2nd pressing, then the buyers of the 2nd pressing are getting ripped off too.

It's not like they are any cheaper in the second pressing, so saying that they got the first group to pay a premium is a bit ridiculous. The record still would have sold over the 1000 copies at $50 even if they weren't a limited edition, and people would understand the price because pressing a vinyl is much more expensive then burning a CD (and it is so tied to the nature of the show). Plus they have changed enough to keep the original 1000 unique. So in conclusion calm down, and let's remember that Sh-k-Boom is doing alot to record shows that no one else will. They are on our side. Hell do you think BMG would have even pressed a vinyl. Nope, but sh-k-boom did because they know it is the type of thing fans would want (and they wanted to make money, but it is a business too).

Bad - I understand your problem - false advertising at its finest.

However, I don't think that a) they originally intended to press another set and b) expected that it would be such a huge seller.

Still, I don't blame you for being upset - I would be too - but I think their answers are perfectly sufficient in the situation. You got the "limited edition" edition. These are different.

Third response - at least the company is takin care of the issue and is willing to refund:

The albums can be returned to:

Attn: Returns

Sh-K-Boom Records

630 9th Avenue #407

New York NY 10036

Please let me know your full name and address, and if you have the CCNOW order number. We can issue a credit on your credit card for the albums purchased through our site, the theater sale will have to be via check, or we can do all three by check.

Once we receive the albums back, I’ll expedite a check and/or process the credit card refund for you.

We apologize for any misunderstanding.

- Noah

Cages, so because it is a business, and because the company does alot to record show music, consumers should overlook they fact that they were lied to? I don't think so. The fact that they removed the word "limited" or changed the artwork doesn't negate the fact that they are pressing additional copies of an LP and CD that were supposed to be limited to a pressing of 1000 copies.

The point of buying a "limited edition" is not to have one with a number stamped on it -- it's to own something of which you know there are only a finite number in existence.

To turn the situation around, would those first 1,000 pressings have sold out if they WEREN'T numbered/limited? Maybe, maybe not. But the sticking point is MAYBE. The label made sure they put the fear of a "limited" number into consumers' heads, and insured that everyone bought one while they knew there was still time.

The lesson for the record label here is NOT to make more Drowsy LP's...it's to realize that maybe there's a potential market for limited edition LP's of other, yet-to-be recorded shows.

No i get why you are upset, but i feel like you do have to take previous business practices into account and see that these are people who love theatre, and are doing alot for it and its fans. This is even illustrated by how well they have clearly handled your situation , once again showing that they are above and beyond typical business practices. I think, like Yank said, it is more a matter of them not knowing the demand would be so high than them simply "lying" to the consumer.

In response to what is a "limited edition" I would point out that just as companies make "Limited Editions" of DVD's, that doesn't mean a slightly altered "regular" version won't fill the void left by the "limited" if the demand remains.

You know Sh-K-Boom was planning on a second pressing from the beginning. That's what companies do. Sell you a LIMITED EDITION item. Then when they sell out all the people who didn't get one get all upset. So they ALWAYS produce more and make lots more money. It's business and while it pisses me off because I purchased a limited edition one I was expecting it from the get-go. Can't really blame them. It's just unfortunate.
