Okay. . so I'm going to New York City next week, and I'm seeing "Grey Gardens" and "Les Miserables." I have a spot left open for one more show. My 25 year old sister is begging me to go to a Disney musical with her. I've tried explaining the difference between Disney shows and other shows, but she's really dead-set on seeing a Disney show. She's not into Mary Poppins, so that leaves Tarzan, BatB, and Lion King. . I absolutely refuse to see Tarzan, based on all of the things I've heard about it since it opened.

Anyway, if you were to choose between these two shows, which would you pick?

Beauty is more mainstream. The Lion King is to die for, it looks AMAZING! I don't know if you can get tickets for it as good as Beauty though, since they cash in a lot of dough every week.

THE LION KING most definitely. Good luck getting tickets.

DON'T buy BEAUTY & THE BEAST tickets at the box office. You can get them on TKTS. They are ALWAYS on TKTS.

Donny Osmond is in the cast right now (or is he leaving this week?) and I heard some bad things about him.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Wow, Lion King is still running strong after all this time?

I assumed they would both be available at TKTS. . thanks for the input!

Lion King - purely for Circle of Life. The rest of the show aint that great but the opening alone is worth going for.

THE LION KING
just because it is amazing, and a lot of regional theatres do BATB, so it is much easier to see, in my opinion
but they are really both great :)

Donny Osmond and Sarah Uriarte Berry left on Sunday.

See The Lion King. It's a beautiful, and smart, adaptation.

I'd say out of the two: "Lion King"!

But, you may wanna give "Mary Poppins" a try. It's completely different then the movie. The movie's songs are there, but it's more focused on how the books are. Plus, Ashley's in it re: Beauty and the Beast or The Lion King?

Also, look into "Tarzan". I mean come on, the reviews weren't great, but that's how they are for every show. The music sounds great and just going to see Josh, Jenn and Merle perform is pure HEAVEN!

I saw Beauty and the Beast almost 6 years ago and enjoyed it quite a bit. But with all the recent complaints about the phoned in performances, I'd go with The Lion Kinh, which I saw a little over two years ago. It has a strong cast and it's artistically entertaining.

don't see the lion king mainly because it's more for children. i dont know the craze over those costumes because to me they seemed to abstract and in a word ugly. you would have this one guy walking on stage with a bird in his hand and he was supposed to be a bird!? lets not go into it- just go see beauty and the beast. its the better of the 2 shows and everyone will enjoy it!

please go!

Precisely...that's abstract...the whole point. It makes everything more accessible to human emotions

SEE BEAUTY AND THE BEAST!!!!!! I guarantee you will like it better than TLK. All TLK is is Circle of Life, and after that you can pretty much leave. B&tB is outstanding all the way through, and I actually believe it is better than ANYTHING on Broadway. Plus your sister is a girl (obviously LOL) so B&tB would be better anyways. But you will enjoy it too if you're a guy, I'm just saying all around B&tB is much better in content and scenery. It doesn't get enough credit, and unfortunately TLK gets too much.

Did you just diss Zazu, Zeitoujo? I thought that was amazing how they allowqed the characters to be more than NHL mascots. It is one of the best shows ever and the only thing I hate about it is that it beat Ragtime for best musical. Sarah Uriarte left Beauty and Ashley Brown isn't there anymore, so it isn't worth going.

As bad as Tarzan is, it is far superior (as entertainment, anyway) than The Lion King or Beauty and the Beast, which are two of the most boring musicals I have ever sat through.

This is almost pathetic...fighting over disney musicals

But oh well, Beauty looks exactly like the movie,so it's nothing new besides some songs.

Tarzan is good, Mary Poppins in great, but TLK IS AMAZING!

NO, Beauty has many new things unlike the film. A ton of gorgeous new musical numbers and dialogue scenes, it is NOT exactly like the film.
