Okay... Everyone's had a first time. *wink wink* What was YOUR first Broadway show, when, and why?
I saw the Sweeney Todd revival on October 22, 2005. I was in NYC for 4 days with some theatre classmates and as I stood in line at the old TKTS with my friend Sean and our theatre professor Julia, we said *should we go to sweet charity* (the woman in front of us informed us that it f***ing sucked) so Julia told Sean about Sweeney as I knew the plot, and the music, but wasnt completely familiar with it. We got our tickets, and headed straight to the theatre. It was wonderful and getting to see Patti Lupone for my first theatre experience was a marvel.
"Don't worry, it should never be seen. It's comparable to Britney's hoo-ha." - being.jeremiah in response to the High School Musical 2 logo
"You look fantastic, all you need are high heels, cake and a dream." - Amneris
I was going to NYC to visit family and I had the option to see a Broadway show. I chose Gypsy because I wanted to see Bernadette. It was one of the best decisions I ever made.
Such a fun time. It had been my first time going to NYC, and my grandma took me, and we had planned on seeing Wicked, but she surprised me with Drowsy tickets, as well. I loved it! We had already bought the OBCR, and I thought it was cute, but there wasn't that wow factor in it until I actually saw the show. (We also saw The Wedding Singer on our trip, too)
Cats- I have no idea of the exact date, but somewhere around 1998/1999
We had tickets to The Sound of Music, but it closed before we got there so we exchanged them for tickets to Cats. Sat in the front row mezzanine so the cats came and danced right in front of us.
"This table, he is over one hundred years old. If I could, I would take an old gramophone needle and run it along the surface of the wood. To hear the music of the voices. All that was said." - Doug Wright, I Am My Own Wife
Beauty and the Beast - August 28, 1994, my birthday. Original cast, Susan Egan, Terrence Mann, Beth Fowler, Burke Moses, Gary Beach, the late Heath Lamberts, and Tom Bosley.
At the time, I was eight years old and had no idea exactly what Broadway was except that Raffi had once been on it. I only wanted to see this because of Disney. Since then I've seen over 41 Broadway shows.
"Ev'ry-buddy wants ta get into de act!"
- Jimmy Durante
"Breathe from your hoo-hoo."
-Kristin Chenoweth
Phantom of the Opera. I think around 1995. For my dad's birthday.
"For example, if I should paint my fingernails green -
and it just so happens I do paint them green. Well, if anyone should ask me why, I say: 'I think it's pretty!'"
"Winning a Tony this year is like winning Best Attendance in third grade: no one will care but the winner and their mom."

"I have also met him in person, and I find him to be quite funny actually. Arrogant and often misinformed, but still funny."
-bjh2114 (on Michael Riedel)
"In theater, the process of it is the experience. Everyone goes through the process, and everyone has the experience together. It doesn't last - only in people's memories and in their hearts. That's the beauty and sadness of it. But that's life - beauty and the sadness. And that is why theater is life." - Sherie Rene Scott
my frist show was Big the musical in 96. I was in last row balcony in the shubert. I recall standing on the TKTS line with my parents. I LOVED that show so much. I was talking to my cousin and he and I were talking about how there are things you see when your young. that you love when you saw them. And you say to yourself that this is the most amazing thing you have ever seen. And as you get older your views never change. For me a good example of that would bee big the musical.
Also, Foster. Ehat is the big deal about having more then one topic on the boards? So what if there is more then one. It's no big deal.

starlight express, back in 1987 or 88 i think (although i could be wrong - i was very little so i don't remember the exact year). i know it wasn't the best quality show but...i'm HOOKED on broadway now so it did something right!
I was on a trip with my theatre group and this was one of the shows that we were able to see.
"I am and always will be the optimist. The hoper of far-flung hopes and dreamer of improbable dreams." - Doctor Who
"Yes, the brutalities of progress are called revolutions. When they are over, men recognize that the human race has been harshly treated but it has moved forward." - Les Miserables
The first musical I ever saw was "The Phantom of the Opera" in Toronto when I was just a little kid, but my first BROADWAY show was "Chicago" a few years ago.
Hey! jasobres and I have the same birthday! (the best day to have a birthday in my opinion ) And my first Broadway show was on my birthday, April 28th, 2005. My grandma took me to see Spamalot. I haven't been seeing shows for long, but hey, I'm, from the west coast and it took a couple decades for me to be able to come to New York. Since that day a year-and-a-half ago I've seen more than 50 shows. Making up for lost time I guess. Updated On: 12/4/06 at 12:25 PM
"The Goodbye Girl" in, I think, 1993. And Bernadette Peters was out, the meanie! I saw Betsy Joslyn instead. Or at least I think I did. I was only 14 and had no idea who Betsy Joslyn was, and I foolishly didn't keep my Playbill, but she was the standby for the role, so I'm assuming it was her.
"All I ask of you is one thing: please don't be cynical. I hate cynicism -- it's my least favorite quality and it doesn't lead anywhere. Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you're kind, amazing things will happen."
Conan O'Brien
