Manoel Feliciano cast as George in Reprise Sunday |
It's Felciano.
"Winning a Tony this year is like winning Best Attendance in third grade: no one will care but the winner and their mom."

"I have also met him in person, and I find him to be quite funny actually. Arrogant and often misinformed, but still funny."

That's the one with Kelli O'Hara in L.A., right?
Wow! Lucky West Coasters if this is true. He's going to make a wonderful George.

wow, that is perfect casting. He will be amazing
BSo, sssh!
If this is true, congrats are indeed in order. Manoel's 'Finishing the Hat' is wonderful, as I'm sure the rest of his George will be.

I recognize the addiction to being alive.

Cool.

*snickers at BSo's comment*
Ah well. I have faith that he'll make it his own. And he sings a mean Finishing the Hat.

Manoel Felciano + Kelli O'Hara + Jason Alexander = PERFECT!
Somebody sit in my chair, and ruin my sleep, and make me aware of being alive!
ICKY.
I hope this isn't a test for him for the London transfer to Broadway. I know there are seperate productions, but it's quite obvious this would work as O'Hara's trial for Dot.
I've said it before, but the last thing I need is 12 year old screaming girls during SUNDAY. They ruined SWEENEY for me, Please not again.

I'm glad I decided to go to the Follies concert in NYC instead of the Sunday in the Park with George concert in LA, Manoel Felciano is not exactly my cup of tea.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
erm... that's not a concert...

Hee, BSo.
Jason Alexander? Who is he going to be? Louis?

Jason Alexander is directing.
And while it's not exactly a concert, it's not a full staging, either. Reprise! does concertized versions of shows with the orchestra on stage. Costumes and choreography are included, but there are no full sets and minimal props. All of the action takes place downstage (with the exception of some entrances and exits via staircases), so everything is pretty linear.
Reprise! sure does attract strong talent, though. Just check out their website to see the scores of B'way stars who have appeared there. It should be very interesting to see how Felciano and O'Hara do with Sunday in the Park. I don't envy either of them, going up against legendary performances by Patinkin and Peters that are preserved on video. But they will surely sing the heck out of the roles, and Felciano, in particular, will be intense as George. This will be quite a stretch for O'Hara in the acting department. If she pulls it off, she will have proven that she is definitely more than an ingenue type.

Oh. I wasn't aware he had a fan following as a director.

I love this line. They are the best, isn't it?

All I'm going to say is..
Some of the comments/messages left on Mano's myspace while he was in Sweeney, were from some of the scariest most over obsessive comments made by teen girls.
There are mature fans of performers like Mano, Raul, Pascal etc. Like Emcee, Skittles, you BroadwayChica, just to name a few. Then there are the fan girls, and they are just... plain scary.
But let the fan girls enjoy Sweeney, even let them get to Company, but the day they start with Follies... I will cry.

Well, you're not wrong about that. There have definitely been really oddball creepy fangirl comments here and there on his MySpace, but I don't think they particularly pervade it. There are many actors who get scarier comments much more often, though. Have you ever seen Anthony Rapp's? They literally frighten me.
I'm also not all that aware of an overwhelmingly teenybopper population in Mano's fanbase, but I'm sorry they ruined the experience for you -- and I do very much agree with what BroadwayChica said about letting a performer and his work speak for itself because it's sad to be turned off to someone so talented by a few annoying girls. I have to wonder if you didn't just catch school groups, or something. I suppose there are those "ohmygod he's so cute!!" girls around, but I never got the impression they were like, everywhere.
I'm wondering if Company will really get that sort of thing. Young people are relating to it in a very deep, intense way, so the "well, they won't relate to such adult subject matter" argument probably won't hold water. As far as I've seen, with a few exceptions, Raúl seems not to attract squealing teenybopper fans very often, but I wonder if that'll change.
