Hi, Everyone...

Just wanted to get your opinions on what you think is the most difficult broadway song to sing correctly (I think it would be "Think of Me" from Phantom of the Opera).

It all depends on the person's training, background, and skills. One person's "difficult" could be very comfortable for someone else with the same range/tessitura.

I think "Getting Married Today" is, just due to the sheer number of words you have to get out and have the audience understand you, all the while slowly decompensating on stage. That is one tough number IMO. The building pace makes it a difficult piece. I am in awe of those who perform it well.

(I think it would be "Think of Me" from Phantom of the Opera).

Mmm, how many Broadway songs do you know?

I don't think "Think of Me" is difficult at all. My concert choir performed it a few years ago. I agree with Rath, it depends on each individual.

Most anything by Bernstein is particularly difficult to sing correctly, especially pieces like "Something's Coming" which I've only heard once with true rhythmic integrity.

Glitter and Be Gay

You're reminding me of people you hear at the movies asking questions every ten seconds, "Who is that? Why is that guy walking down the street? Who's that lady coming up to him? Uh-oh, why did that car go by? Why is it so dark in this theater?" - FindingNamo on strummergirl

"That's, like, twelve shows! ...Or seven." -Crazy SA Fangirl

"They say that just being relaxed is the most important thing [in acting]. I take that to another level, I think kinda like yawning and...like being partially asleep onstage is also good, but whatever." - Sherie Rene Scott

I'll also vote for "Not Getting Married Today".

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

"Getting Married Today" takes the cake IMO.

"Kiss Me" from Sweeney Todd is a mouthful, mainly because both parts are intricate and then putting them together. And Johanna's is all over the place in terms of range.

The Witch's part in the Prologue in Into the Woods. Also "I Know Things Now" and "Giants in the Sky" are pretty difficult but can definitely be done. "Maybe Their Magic" is not too difficult, but they did slow it down for the revival, so it must have posed somewhat of a problem.

"Act I Finale" in Urinetown is hard for an ensemble to get right. The individual parts are easy, but put it all together and the timing gets off and parts are hidden.

Bill in carousel?
Do you mean Billy's song "Solilquy"? It is long but not terribly difficult for a Baritone.
Or do you mean "Bill" From Showboat. Which I guess is a little difficult if you sing it in the Key that Lonnette Mckee sang it. (too low)

I would say I Know Things Now is definately harder to sing well.
It lies in a really awkward place, and it's deceptively high.

Giants in the Sky is a songs that I would say fits most tenors and high baritones pretty well.

Of course, this is all subjective, and it depends on the person.

Personally, I think I have too much bloom.

I was waiting for the first Mention of Defying Gravity.
There also seems to be a lack of Schwartz in general on this thread.
Here are some:
West end avenue (Moderately difficult)
Meadowlark (harder because it is long, kinda the female eqivalent of "Soliliquy")

I agree.

Think of Me is not difficult at all if you are a trained opera singer.

I second rainbow high. We might as well add the whole role of eva peron. Except maybe the lament.
Some of the Florence music in chess is ridiculously difficult. "Nobody's on Nobody's side" comes to mind with the beginning being so low and then the crazy belting later on.

A LOT of Last 5 Years. There are so many lyrics and not a lot of places to breathe in those songs. Also, JRB's songs tell a story so you have to sing them a certain way to make it as if you were telling a story.
