I was wondering, if ever a musical, which wasn't written in English originally, made it to Broadway. Anyone knows?

Les Misérables, if that counts. :) (Since it was vastly different in 1980.)

The Three Penny Opera is an operetta, not a musical:) And La Boheme an opera, if I'm not mistaken.

Amour was originally written in French I believe, since it lists a translator in the credits.

Many people don't realize Oklahoma was originally written in Sanskrit.

It wasn't about that, Yessica, but simply about the fact that I was wondering if any 'musical' made it. There are many succesful musicals written in German f.e. (Like Elisabeth or Ludwig II), which never were translated/made it to Braodway. Therefore, I was wondering, if only musicals written in English can have succes there aka will be staged.

"Gone with the wind" London 1972 was originally written in Japanese. It had a national tour of the US but never made it to broadway.

Everything and everyone's considered a musical.

How to properly use its/it's: Its is the possessive. It's is the contraction for it is...

Thanks for those! Altough - again - the merry widow isn't a musical, but an opperetta. Same goes for Happy End.

Wasn't 'Cyrano - The musical' originally in Dutch before it came to (and flopped on) Broadway in the 90's? I think I have the cast album somewhere...

For those of you who don't know, Kristina från Duvemåla is by Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson from ABBA. Its based on the Immigrant novels by Swedish writer Vilhelm Moberg and is currently in workshops for an English production on Broadway....the music is phenomenal and the story is epic...Its going to be incredible.
