What does everyone think are the perfect cast recordings? And by perfect - I mean this - that everytime you listen to it, unless under strange circumstances, you listen to EVERY track, without skipping a single song - including overtures and entr'actes.
I feel that these can be called perfect:
Hello, Dolly! (OBC) Cabaret (1998 Revival) Crazy For You (OLC) Gypsy (TV Recording w/ Bette Midler),(OBC), (2003 Revival) Hair (Actor's Fund Benefit) La Cage Aux Folles (OBC) Sunday in the Park With George (OBC) The Last Five Years (OOBC) The Light in the Piazza (OBC) The Most Happy Fella (OBC) Tick, Tick, Boom! (OBC) West Side Story (OBC)
those would be mine. i know this has a lot to do with personal taste, but i think we all can agree that a cast recording where you don't skip a single track is a rare thing.
Side Show Avenue Q Hair (OBC and Actor's Fund) Into the Woods (OBC and Revival) Kiss of the Spiderwoman Little Shop of Horrors (Revival) Man of La Mancha (Revival)
"I don't wanna see that!" -Aunt Sassy (as played by Valerie Cherish) on Room & Bored
Beauty and the Beast. Just because I played Clarinet in the pit for that show once and I like to listen for the part I played. Les Miserables (OBC) Jersey Boys Man of La Mancha (revival)
"I'll show you a laughgasm. I'll gasm all over this stage!"
"Interesting choice"
THE WEDDING SINGER and HAIRSPRAY would actually qualify; the former especially. I don't think I've ever purposely skipped a track, unless I got in my car and wanted to just hear a specific song. When it plays from the beginning, it PLAYS.
Tick...Tick...BOOM! (honestly, there's not a SINGLE thing on that recording that I feel could have been done better. Every single song was written and doen flawlessly)
Kiss Me Kate revival recording :P
Hair Actors Fund Benifit (its like they got every single amazing singer/performer currently on broadway and had them do a song on this cd! I DO skip a bunch of tracks just cause the songs arent all my favs, but the PEOPLE singing them make it flawless)
Wedding Singer OBCR (honestly, there is not a SINGLE song I skip, because EVERY one is amazingly fun, catchy, and listenable. If I DONT listen to every song at lest once every day I feel deprived. PLUS its another dream cast situation)
RENT Movie soundtrack AND OBCR (soundtrack because EVERYONE is completely flawless and has amazinggly gorgeous voices and because the instrumentals are kick ass, the OBCR because of its incredible rawness and the fact that it perfectly captured the spirit of the OBC performances)
I don't need a life that's normal. That's way too far away. But something next to normal would be okay. Something next to normal is what I'd like to try. Close enough to normal to get by.
when I DO have to skip something, I skip the letters, but on account of they are hysterical I still almost always listen to them unless I only have time to listen to a few songs or something :) haha

"I'm tellin' you, the only times I really feel the presence of God are when I'm having sex and during a great Broadway musical." - Nathan Lane - Jeffrey
I wouldn't say Tick, tick...BOOM is perfect in that the acting is not up to the par the LA version I just saw was- and the voices grate a litte. But...I never skip a song, and love it dearly.
Assassins (revival cast) Ragtime Gypsy (OBC) Jersey Boys Sunday in the Park With George
"Are you sorry for civilization? I am sorry for it too." ~Coast of Utopia: Shipwreck
Jekyll & Hyde - Every time I listen to it, I just sing along to basically every part of every song...and have quite a blast. I love dark musicals, for some reason. Plus I LOVE Linda Eder's vocals.
Jesus Christ Superstar - These songs are so catchy. Some are hilarious. Some are poignant. It's just a great musical in my opinion!
Children of Eden - It's just so beautiful...and they did the show here a few years ago for a summerstage production. So I'm familiar with it.
As much as I would like to, I can't say RENT OBC because I don't like "We're Okay"...I can't stand that song. But I can say RENT, the motion picture.
HELLO, DOLLY! (Movie) HIGH SPIRITS (OBC) THE LAST FIVE YEARS (OOBC) THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA (OBC)
"I believe that art does not exist only to entertain, but also to challenge one to think, to provoke, even to disturb, to engage in a constant search for the truth."
- Barbra Streisand
Evita-The white album. Into the Woods (obc) Grand Hotel (obc) Starlight Express (olc) Nine (Australia cast ) Chess-all recordings Chicago 90's cast Sweeney Todd (obc)
Well I didn't want to get into it, but he's a Satanist.
Every full moon he sacrifices 4 puppies to the Dark Lord and smears their blood on his paino.
This should help you understand the score for Wicked a little bit more.
