A good doctor would have sent me directly to the emergency room after seeing Martin Short's "Fame Becomes Me" because I am certain I permanently damaged many vital organs from LAUGHING SO HARD. In fact if Martin and the show had been any funnier, I'd be dead.
You MUST SEE IT! With original music and lyrics from Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (Hairspray) it opens at one of Martin Short's "legendary" Christmas parties at his home in California and quickly and deftly moves into a hilarious and original "version" of his life. To call it clever is not doing it justice. I know dogs that are clever. No, this is inspired. At times it feels like a high wire act(literally, as you will see at the end of act one) with Martin doing what he does best. EVERYTHING. His vocal gymnastics are amazing. His ad-libbing with an audience member astonishing. And in the context that has been established for the musical, you get to see a few of his most memorable characters. You'll know them all.
The Comedy All Stars (four actors including Marc Shaiman) who serve in what seems to be hundreds of roles are perfection. Don't call them an "ensemble" They are all supporting actors every one of them and as such deserve many awards. I don't hand them out personally as it turns out, but someone should give them one/many.
Scott Wittman's direction is fast paced and original.
It is the funniest thing I've seen in the theatre in a long time.
I could go on and on, but I'm going in for XRAYS as I write. Precautionary, I assure you. And as soon as I recover, I'm going back to see it again and again and taking my accountant with me whom I'm hoping really does expire from laughing so hard.
TB, in HER first post on BWW, Rath trashed a Tony nominee from Marc Shaiman's last Broadway show and then made the first of multiple allusions to her "friendship" with an anonymous Broadway star whom she later revealed to be out, proud actress Karen Ziemba.
THAT is an acceptable first post. Please go back and edit accordingly. Thanking you in advance in reverse.
I'm glad you enjoyed the show TB. Martin Short doesn't really do it for me, but I'm glad he does for some people. Yeah, Sally, I did have the same reaction. I went to get a sweater because it did feel a little shilly in here.

And that's our Rath. Always concerned about niceness and kindness and yet still manages copious negativity, which is excusable in her own, well, mind I guess you would call it.
Actually yes, because after reading comments like yours, I felt compelled to. You know, it is possible for someone to see a show and write an intelligent, thoughtful review. Why is that automatically something to be suspect of?

And I can't wait to see this!! I'm looking forward to this over Chorus Line, Poppins, Pirate Queen, Company, and Les Mis put together!
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

"I'm learning to dig deep down inside and find the truth within myself and put that out. I think what we identify with in popular music more than anything else is when someone just shares a truth that we can relate to. That's what I'm searching for in my music." - Ron Bohmer
"I broke the boundaries. It wasn't cool to be in plays- especially if you were in sports & I was in both." - Ashton Kutcher
Rath, at the risk of indulging you in yet another of your one-on-one conversations in a thread (it's What She Does ALL The Time, newcomers), I've never been concerned with postivity or negativity. Just honesty. And your hypocrisy. Honestly.

Dear TS, I know you were probably not loved by siblings or children your own age and it probably is a lesson you never learned but merely repeating what somebody else has said to you not only lacks cleverness or wit, but makes you look rather retarded.
