What a mature stand to take by walking out on a show. Honestly, he can have any opinon he likes but I certainly don't see Mr. Sondheim going around saying what shows he likes and doesn't. I never liked Schwartz or his insignificant music and lyrics(terrible!!) and this makes me dislike him even more.

Muscle, why do you feel its necessary to say "Go wicked" as if it is some sort of a victory? Should I be shouting "Go Into the Woods" as it is the ONLY show Sondheim ever wrote? (insert saracism)

Posted: 4/25/06 at 5:24pmI kind of lost respect for him when Wicked lost the Tony for Best Musical and he went on and on and on about it in public. I can understand being disappointed about it, but move on, your show is making over $1 million a week.

I doubt Patti LuPone let her letter become publicized.
Everyone's entitled to their own opinions. Personally I think the guy who wrote the article is the one coming off as self important here. Someone disagrees with him and he writes an article about it? What's up with that?
Personally, I often agree with the detractors, although I couldn't imagine why Schwartz would have walked out.

Sorry to thread hijack, but I remember when sister and I were talking about "Wicked", and she asked if the show won any Tonys, and I told her that Idina Menzel won one (but that should have belonged to Kristin Chenoweth, but then again, I can only judge by the cast recording), but that the show ultimately lost to "Avenue Q", and she started laughing and laughing, saying that a show must be really pathetic if it lost to "Avenue Q" (She's no "Avenue Q" fan.). It was funny, in an "You-gotta-be-there-to-feel-it" kinda way.
But back on topic. I don't see what the big deal is. We walk out when we don't like shows, if Stephen Schwartz doesn't like a show, he shouldn't be forced to sit through it.
You insult me, I ignore you. That's how the system works around here.
