I just had a couple questions about meeting with the cast members of POTO at the dressing rooms. Good idea? I just found out my hotel is on 46th street which is where I heard the dressing rooms are located? So I was wondering if this was really something, in someone with experience with Phantoms, that was OK with them before or after (it is an evening show) the show. I thought it may be a little less out of the way for Mr McGillin.
Also, I am brain dead as to what kind of 'gift' to bring???
It is rather important as I am doing this on behalf of others that it would mean a lot to and it is kind of last minute so I can't really write a letter beforehand. Thanks.
I doubt you'll be able to go to their dressing rooms unless you know one of the cast members. You can always stand outside the stage door (it's basically the cast of Avenue Q and Phantom)which is more like a trash dump but they do come out of there... As far as a gift, I've never taken one... Maybe flowers depending on who you're giving them too.
I once got invited backstage...and I saw where the actor who plays the Phantom gets his make-up on. but I don't know...MAYBE if you ask someone who works at the theatre if it's possible to visit an actor in their dressing room? The best thing I would say to do is just wait for the actors after the show at the stage door, they're always nice enough to sign an autograph.

As I mentioned, before a show is rarely a good time to meet any performer, especially phantoms, who just want to get in there for the 45 min. make up routine.
As far as gifts...flowers are fine for the ladies, but most cast members can't turn down "goodies". A box of good chocolates or a nice basket of some NY pasteries always makes a yummy treat that rarely makes it to the next show.
Don't count on the dressing room visit unless you know a cast member. Besides the phantom dressing room is the size of a bathroom and backstage is not exactly impressive unless you're partial to crowded, old, catacombs.
Waiting outside after is the best option to catch the cast.
After the show is good. As Pati said, you really don't want to disturb the actors' routines right before the show. And, waiting by the stage door is your best bet. Get there fast after curtain call though if you want to meet the actors playing Christine or Raoul though...they tend to jet out there fast! LOL! Meeting the Phantom may take some perseverence, but it's definitely worth it! :)
Let's see what else... Bring a silver sharpie...shows up best on the black background. Study the headshots because the actors may be hard to recognize outside of makeup/costume.
