I knew that would reel some of you in...
Ok... here's the question
I am looking for a song in which a girl gives up on friendship... preferably with everyone, not just one person...
Also, another good duet in which two people profess their love... and if it could be somehow mocked... it would be even better!
Thanks for your help if you can provide some!

Giving up on friendship... not declaring it so much...
But Suddenly Seymour could easily be a good choice

Hmmmm...."Every Day A Little Death" is a nice song about giving up on love (not friendship) but I thought I'd throw it out.

You might think in the area of children's musicals or musicals with child characters. There's often a character who gets bitter and wants to be left alone. I'll keep thinking.....
"Do you know ChrisLovesShows?" "Yes. Why, yes he does!"

I agree with Suddenly Seymour, or even the opening number from little shop if you have a lot of people that youre working with. (I think its called "Downtown Skid Row" but I cant remember) You might look at Children's Letters to God. There's a song from that where one of the characters is talking to his father, who is no longer a part of his life. I'll look up the name of the song for you
I peer through windows, watch life go by....Dream of tommorrow, but stay inside.

If you're looking for a song that mocks love, try The Song That Goes Like This from Spamalot (I think that's what it's called). It's more mocking musicals in general rather than love but it's a really funny love-ish kind of duet.

I don't even get how Skid Row would work for either request... but maybe that's just me.

No need to be rude to people who are just trying to help you.
(Martha Graham from a letter to Agnes de Mille) "There is a vitality, a life force, a quickening That is translated through you into action, And because there is only one of you in all time, This expression is unique. If you block it, It will never exist through any other medium And be lost. The world will never have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is, Nor how valuable it is, Nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours, clearly and directly, To keep the channel open. You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work. You have to keep open and aware Directly to the urges that motivate you. Keep the channel open. No artist is pleased. There is no satisfaction whatever at any time. There is only a queer, divine dissatisfaction, A blessed unrest that keeps us marching And makes us more alive than others."

I wasn't being rude...
I was being questioning...
Because I don't get it.
And I said maybe that's just me...
As in I'm an idiot.

BARBRA STREISAND lyrics - "Down With Love"

www.OldieLyrics.com

(E.Y. Harburg and H. Arlen)

Down with love,
With flowers and rice and shoes,
Down with love,
The root of all midnight blues,
Down with things
That give you that well -known pain,
Take that moon,
Wrap it in cellophane;
Down with love let's liquidate
All it's friends,
Like moon, June, roses
And rainbow's ends,
Down with songs
That moan about night and day;
Down with love,
Take it away, away,
Take it away, take it away,
Give it back to the birds,
And the bees and the Viennese,
Down with eyes romantic and stupid,
Down with sighs, down with cupid.
Brother let's stuff that dove,
Down with love!
Down with love!
Liquidate all it's friends
Like moon, June, roses
And rainbow's ends
Down with songs
That moan about night and day
You are the one...
And I don't stand a chance with a ghost like you
Ah, the promised kiss of Spring is here...
Why does my heart go dancin' overhead...
On the ceiling near my bed...
We go now...
Because I talk to the trees, but they don't listen to me...
I tell them:
You say eether - I say eyether,
You say neether, I say nyther
Eether, eyether
Neether, nyther
Let's call the whole thing off!
Take it away, take it away
Give it back to the birds
And the bees and the Viennese...
Down with eyes romantic and stupid
Down with sighs, down with cupid,
Brother let's stuff that dove,
Down, down, down
I go on round and round
I go in a spin,
Hey, in the spin, I'm in!
What is this thing...
What is this thing called love?
