wicked 'elphaba' question#0
Posted: 1/25/06 at 5:35pm
im seeing wicked for the fourth time, but as opposed to seeing it on Broadway this time, I'm seeing the touring cast in Boston in April. Previous Elphaba's I've seen (Idina, Shososha, and Eden) have been absolutley fabulous. Thier voices are strong, controlled, and soulful. I have heard many recordings and clips of other Elphaba's such as Kristy Cates and Stephanie Block, and I think that they over-sing the songs sooo much taking away from thier ability to act!!!! The new Elphaba that begins in March, Julia, is an amazing singer and I saw her in The Wild Party years back. I have a feeling she may over-sing the Elphaba songs as well, and not have the soulful from the heart voice. Can some body make me feel better about this before I definetely spend another $100 on a theater ticket? (but i probably will anyways because i still love the show) <333333 :)

Julia can put a lot of heart into her singing - and she usually does to back up that powerful voice.

Her rendition of BEAUTIFUL BOY in Lennon was quiet, calm, and beautiful.

There's no doubt in my mind she will be a very different and a very amazing Elphaba. YOu are fortunate to get a chance to see her.

I saw said touring cast last December, and that night, Elphaba was Stephanie J. Block and G(a)linda was Katie Adams (u/s for Kendra). Great cast, awesome show. I've also heard that Julia's amazing, so I wouldn't worry. And if your show is anything like mine, you won't be disappointed. At all.

I think Julia is KNOWN for her belt, but she definitely has a beautiful voice when she isn't belting, too.

She's going to be fantastic, end of story. You're lucky to have the opportunity to see her. Take it.

Julia can definitely hold her own in the acting department and tone down her vocals. She has the powerhouse voice to handle the role, but I don't think you have anything to worry about. There are an awful lot of people going out of their way to see her on the tour insetad of seeing the Broadway show, and there are some of us who wish we COULD go out of our way to see her on the tour.

Like Emcee said. You're lucky to have the opportunity to see her in it. Take it. I don't think you'll regret it.

If you are seeing it in Boston it's probably best to get tickets ASAP. They are all almost gone.

Go. See. Her. Her voice is amazing. I wish I could see her portrayal of the character, I'm sure she's going to be great. It will be interesting to see her chemistry with the other cast members.
