"So true, Greek. Most people are more upset about the lousy cover art than they are about the lousy movie!"
I was just going to say. The artwork is pretty perfect for the film that was made. Should I have expected any better? If the film itself looked gritty and dark, perhaps I'd be surprised, but maybe I shouldn't be.
i personally dont like the artwork for the case, it just looks to amateur and...yeah, i dunno, doesnt really work for me. but the movie was great anyway, and i wish i could get the dvd!
It's tacky and looks like the result of a 13-year-old's first venture into PaintShop Pro land. It also looks like half the actors weren't ready for the camera.
That said, I doubt the cover art will affect sales either way. I doubt Rent is the type of movie that many people would buy based on the cover.
People are seriously putting WAY too much thought into this. Some like it and some don't. Matter of personal opinon. But, people give the show more credit than it deserves about the movie making the source material light and so on. Come one people, the show is not as dark and gritty as some people think. In fact, I think the movie is darker in tone and in spirit due to the actual showing of drug use, withdrawl, and the physical signs of Angel dying of AIDS--which the the stage show does not show at all.

good point but does the stage show show all of that...um... "male on male and female on female" kissing? but still, i dont really care for the cover, but i guess we all have our opinions...
Anyone notice how Mark is ALL the way in the foreground? I thought that was an interesting choice. The colors, yeah...I hope they get people's attention.
