If you could see a musical about one of these topics which would you be most interested?
1. sort of like clue/and then there were none
2. highschool or musical production in high school
3. sort of like the breakfast Club
4. A Girl traveling through Europe via clues and missions sent to her through letters from her crazy artistic aunt. Once first task is completed then the next letter can be opened. Each letter holds a new destination and a new task. THe aunt left home a year ago and the letters lead to the answer of her disappearance.
5. Evil Queen from Snow White and Ugly Stepmother from Cinderella are cell mates in prison. They share stories of how they were the ones being victimized and the heroines of theses stories aren't as good as they seem
There are tons of Whodunit plays, I'm not sure about musicals, the Clue idea could be cool, whodunits tend not to get old. How is the Breakfast Club different than a high school musical? Either of those would work, but it'd be hard not to make it cliche or demeaning to high schoolers, which is hard to do. The evil stepmother idea seems a little too close to Wicked to me. Just thoughts...are you writing a musical? Or just curious?
I think that it would be very interesting to see a clue-type musical. The only thing that is remotely close IMO is The Woman in White, but that is just a secret. We need more thrillers like Sweeney and WIW on Broadway. It really is very entertaining.
I like number four, but you must give the Aunt some onstage time too, It will only work if we love the Aunt. I like number 5 too, as long as it isn't a Wicked copy. If you are writing, good luck to you.

Actually, I'd say there is one musical a little more like Clue than The Woman in White:
A Girl traveling through Europe via clues and missions sent to her through letters from her crazy artistic aunt. Once first task is completed then the next letter can be opened. Each letter holds a new destination and a new task. THe aunt left home a year ago and the letters lead to the answer of her disappearance.
I'd be interested in Number 4, too, but I agree with Jimmirae. The Aunt has to have some stage-time. Perhaps without giving away exactly where she is or what she's doing there, but something to make us love her and care about why she's sending her neice on this wild-goose chase. Maybe you could have a way for the neice to reply to her letters with her reflections and observations, too.
"And the postman sighed as he scratched his head, you really rather thought she ought to be dead..."
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ I remember days Or at least I try But as years go by They're sort of haze And the bluest ink Isn't really sky And at times I think I would gladly die For a day of sky ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ And Starbucks will use the words 'large' and 'small', not pretentious crap like grande and tall. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ "You could get away with anything if you call it art and tell people who don't like it that it's cutting edge culture." --vmlinnie ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
I like number 4, but I agree that the crazy aunt should be a central figure. We have to have some sort of opinion of her, be it love or hate, or else why do we care if the niece finds her or not?
I think you should steer clear of number 2 however - you'd have to work pretty hard to make it original and not cliche and overdramatic.
Edit: Wait, I'm confused. Are you thinking of writing a musical on one of these topics or just curious?

I'm leaning toward #4--& I agree that the aunt needs some stage time.
I think a show like this might appeal to a wide variety of generations--but so that it's not a total "chick" show, I'd like to see some intersting male characters pop up in the adventures.
