The very, very end of the first segment (where the song ends in the movie) -- the instrumentals. No, you aren't sniffing glue, it sounds exactly like "Lean on Me."
It sounds exactly like Lean On Me. When it started I was like why are they playing this? It seems weirdly out of context especially for someone that wouldn't previously know the music.
yep...in fact, i'm pretty sure they're the same progression of chords only inverted or in another key or something.
i've always wondered where larson got the inspiration for his music - having been a just-starting composer, i wouldn't be surprised that some of his influences would seep through onto his shows. if so, it says nothing terrible about larson. in fact, it says that he was by instinct able to recognize riffs and chord combinations that worked - which is why we like the music in rent!
you could look at it the other way around too: the begginning of take me or leave me is a sped up version of lean on me. just a thought.
Tenme por lo que soy, por lo que puedo ser, y si te importo hoy, tenme nena, o vete!
Lean on me was like the back up song for my junior high choir... i can't listen to it anymore. Ugh. So it drove me a little crazy at first in the movie... but now I don't really care so much.
Measure your life in love, RENTheads, and keep it always in your heart.

I always thought it was TMOLM but I also thought it does sound like that. Interesting.

lol- I can't believe this was noticed. My friend, who has never seen RENT before, made this remark in the movie and I told her to shut up and watch. So weird people so think alike...
