I dunno...I just got back from seeing the evening performance of the Joffrey Ballet's THE NUTCRACKER. It just wasnt...as good as its been(other companies). The ending really shocked me...cuz it was such beautiful dancing and then BANG curtain call, I dont think they really completed the story. Has anyone else seen it? Do you feel the same way?

The Nutcracker isn't really known for its story; it's more of a holiday spirit-y event with pretty dancing for Christmas time with the kids.

Are you talking about the Joffrey School performance of Nutcracker at the Skirball Center at NYU or the Joffrey performance in Chicago? I haven't seen either, but just curious...

The Joffrey Ballet performs THE NUTCRACKER at Chicago's Historic Auditorium Theatre. The sets are by Oliver Smith and in the Joffrey Ballet's world famous Nutcracker Clara and Drosselmeyer fly away in an emormous Victorian Balloon before the curtain descends.

Shouldn't Clara and the Nutcracker Prince fly away? What happens to the prince if Drosselmeyer flies away with Clara? Sounds sorta incestuous to me....

Drosselmeyer's nephew and apprentice fights a battle (in scene 2 - The Magical Battle Ground) with the Mouse King to protect Clara. Clara saves the Nephew/Nutcracker from death at the hand of the Mouse King there by turning him into a Prince. The Prince then takes Clara on a journey (in her dream) to the Land of Snow where The Queen, King and Snow Prince look suspiciously like her mother, father and brother and then to The Land of the Sweets where the Prince is betrothed to the Sugar Plum Fairy. At the end of Clara's dream Drosselmeyer takes her back home in a Victorian hot air balloon.
