Even though I have never understood why, people always seem to include "My Favorite Things" from The Sound of Music with Christmas music.

There is a song called "Christmas Day" from Promises, Promises and a song called "Bethlehem" from the original version of Martin Guerre.

There is also the entire score of the Leslie Bricusse/Anthony Newley movie (and later stage) musical Scrooge--which contains lots of great music.
"You pile up enough tomorrows, and you'll find you are left with nothing but a lot of empty yesterdays. I don't know about you, but I'd like to make today worth remembering." --Harold Hill from The Music Man

I did orchestrations for a Bruce Kimmel album, CHRISTMAS ON BROADWAY, which is now on the Fynsworth Alley label. It's got around 15 Christmas-themed songs.

In 1963, Here's Love, a musical version of Miracle on 34th Street opened at the Shubert, with music and lyrics by Meredeth Willson (The Music Man, The Unsinkable Molly Brown). The show was a moderate success and is full of holiday-themed songs. My favorites are 'Pine Cones and Holly Berries' and 'That Man Over There is Santa Claus'.

I did a CD compilation of Broadway cast and Soundtrack cuts including:

MAME: We need a little Christmas
HERE'S LOVE: It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
& That Man Over there is Santa Claus
IRMA LA DOUCE: Christmas Child
SONG OF NORWAY: At Christmastime
CALL ME MISTER: Yuletide Park Avenue
I LOVE MY WIFE: Lovers on Christmas Eve
SUBWAYS ARE FOR SLEEPING: Be a Santa
PROMISES PROMISES: Christmas Eve
BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS: Hard Candy Christmas
SHE LOVES ME: 12 Days to Christmas
plus the "Christmas" themed shows: CHRISTMAS CAROL/SCROOGE, Victor Herbert's operetta BABES IN TOYLAND (including Toyland, March of the Toys and Hail to Christmas.) and the opera AMAHL AND THE NIGHT VISITORS.

HOLIDAY INN: Happy Holidays & White Christmas
MEET ME IN ST LOUIS: Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas
LEMON DROP KID: Silver Bells
IN THE GOOD OLD SUMMERTIME: Merry Christmas
WHITE CHRISTMAS: Snow & White Christmas (again)

Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

One of my alltime favorites is Stay With Me, from City of Angels, with rewritten lyrics for Nancy LaMott's Christmas CD (one of the best gifts you'll ever give yourself):

It isn't Christmas every day, so stay with me
We've got the radio to play our favorite songs
With a cup of Christmas cheer, I hope that you'll agree
To share a serenade with me
No we don't have to join a choir, just stay with me
What say we huddle by the fire, and not let go?
Beneath the tree, and mistletoe
These yuletide moments that we spend
Never have to end
Keep them in your heart -
I know they're sure to stay with me, even after we must part.
"I don't really get the ending, all i can go with is when after several months,Judith saw Pat sang, and later she kissed him on the toilet, after that the story back to where Pat went down from the stage after he'd sung, and he went to the italian lady.I just don't get it,what Judith exatcly meant when he kissed Pat that she had seen, and did Pat end up together with The Italian Lady? Please help me,thank u very much!" Quote from someone on IMDB in reference to a movie he/she didn't understand. Such grammar!

elmore- you mean the Nancy LaMott CD? It was unavailable for a few years, but I'm glad it's back out again - it has some of the best songs I've ever heard for the holidays.

frontrowcentre2--- That's an awesome list! I'm only sorry you didn't include "Turkey Lurkey Time" from Promises...

But it's a great comprehensive collection. And if you also opened the door to TV Soundtracks you could add a slew more...

The Grinch
The Rankin-Bass specials
Charlie Brown Christmas, etc.

Oh, for film/Broadway classics, you could also add Eartha Kitt's smash hit recording of "Santa Baby." It was added into the Broadway show after it opened, and it's in the filmed version of "New Faces" as well.
"Jaws is the Citizen Kane of movies."

Do you think your roommate could do all the parts from "Christmas Bells" from "Rent"? That'd be a recital I'd like to see.
"Your lyrics lack subtlety! You can't just have your characters announce how they feel! That makes me feel angry!"

I would second a vote for "Hard Candy Christmas," but it is not a Christmas song. Other than saying, "it's like a hard candy Christmas," nothing is Christmas related. It's basically a song about your whole life going to sh*t and youor next step. It is a beautiful song, though.
Pretty pretty please don't you ever ever feel like you're less than f**ckin' perfect!

As frontrowcentre2 mentioned, "Be a Santa" is a great song from the little known score of Subways are for Sleeping. It is one of the few songs from that show that sheet music is available. I think it is included in the Jule Styne songbook. If you have access to handbells there is a nice section in there for them!
