1998: RAGTIME

Honestly, I really really love Phantom of the Opera and Into the Woods both. Other than that, I'm going to reserve my judgement on shows that I haven't seen (e.g. Avenue Q).

GYPSY.

Not a single Tony in its original run.

How could I forget GYPSY?

It's a travesty that it didn't win any awards during its original run.

Munk---Merman didn't win for Gypsy. She was beaten out by Mary Martin in Sound of Music (which tied for Best Musical that year with Fiorello... meaning that Gypsy came in THIRD at the very best).

I believe Merman's only competetive Tony was for Call Me Madam.

But remember many of her legendary roles came before the Tonys had been established. Girl Crazy, Red, Hot & Blue, Anything Goes...

Merman lost to Mary Martin in The Sound of Music. The Merm said, "You can't buck a nun."

2005: Something other than "Spamalot". I believe that all the other shows nominated for the Best Musical award were more deserving of it. "Spamalot" seemed to me to win simply because of its connection to "Monty Python"

Feud or not, I still believe that NINE is one of the best musicals ever written and rightfully won.
