Full Frontal Take me Out#1

I have recently been called back for a production of take me out. I hear there is a lot of full frontal male nudity. i'm a little self conscious, so could anyone who has seen it regionally or on broadway tell me the extent of the nudity and if the guys were average, or better endowed?

Are you for real?

All characters other than Mason and Davey have at least one fairly lengthy nude scene. There is a shower scene about 5 minutes long which includes much of the cast. There is a locker room scene between Darren and Toddy where both are naked for about 5 minutes. And there is another shower scene between Darren and Shane that goes on for several minutes.

I wouldn't worry about "size" -- not many people are terribly "impressive" flaccid anyway. Others may disagree, but there were few real "standouts" in the Broadway cast. And I think I won't go into any more detail lest this thread get deleted.

Break a leg. I'm sure the nudity is a bit nerve wracking, but it's a very good play.

I haven't seen Take Me Out but I've always wondered if the show would be as effective without the nudity?

No, the play would not be effective without the nudity. The nudity is used to show which characters are comfortable with their sexuality and their masculinity and which ones aren't. If done well, it's not gratuitious at all.

The impact of the lead character's coming out upon the intimacy of the lockerroom is major theme in the play. Kippy compares it to Adam and Eve being tossed out of paradise and they suddenly see themselves as naked and are self-conscious about it in ways they never had been before. This is due to a complicated mixture of feelings of homophobia and latent homosexual feelings which have come to the forefront as the result of the team's hero ackowledging his sexuality.

Bottom line, each of the nude scenes is necessary to the overall play and large chunks of dialogue wouldn't make sense without it.

I am hoping whatacharacter is teasing; I would hope he read the script before the audition.

I saw the show before it moved to Broadway and the guys were all 'average' in that department. Two characters get into a brawl while they are naked and end up wrestling on the floor. But not only will you be naked, you have to take a shower on stage so you'd better be comfortable touching your body in front of hundreds of perfect strangers all watching you. BTW, I would hope the water is warm.

Did you really find Kohl Sudduth's beer can****and pendulous balls to be "average"? If so, I'm jealous- I think you've been sleeping with a very skewed sampling of men!

I saw take me out at the old globe here in san diego and was impressed with a few of them... Doug Wert because of his lean toned muscles, Harlon George because of his stick-figure boy next door type look with those yummy tan lines and then M.D. Walton as Darren Lemming only because of his ... ... length?

It's not like me to forget the, uh attributes, of a naked man, but I really don't remember any of them as 'standouts'. I'm not at home in NY right now but when I do get back, I'll be sure and check my program to make sure Kohl wasn't out sick that day

This is what made me ask if the nudity was necessary for the play to be effective....it seems that many people tend to be distracted by the size of the men's private parts.

I'll plead guilty to furthering the giggly discussion about the size of their appendages however, in all seriousness, it would've seemed strange had they been in the locker room and stayed clothed. As Margo put it so well, each nude scene was necessary to the plot.

the nudity is essential, because otherwise I would have never gone and found out what a good play it actually is... nudity aside... like if it was a movie from the waist up... it would be a good movie... intelligent writing and all...

The nudity is essential (a locker room without nudity would seem a cheat) but it is not distracting.

The play was done here in Toronto about six months ago and only the local gay newspaper made any big deal of the nudity.

It does seem that in the USA, graphic violence doesn't phase people at all but a little nudity and people go ballistic. I wish I understod why. (I am a naturist so I am not unbiased here.)

Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

given that Jesse Williams from grey anatomy was just announced... do we REALLY think they are going to go ahead with the actual nudity?

idk. same reason Ashton Kutcher wouldn't do full frontal or any other major actor on a major tv show.

Jessie Williams is well known, but not famous enough to shut down the nudity. Lee Pace went full frontal in ANGELS and I’d put them on a similar level in terms of name recognition.

Speaking of movies, I remember the rumors that Ben Affleck optioned on this just before the original Broadway run closed. I'm not sure if he was going to star in it or not, or just produce / direct, but he wanted to make this a big screen movie. Does anyone know what happened to this?

"Serious" actors don't balk at nudity if it serves the piece. I assume Jessie is on board. Whether they alter the staging or something to decrease the vulnerability of the actors during the nude scenes remains to be seen.
