This is probably old news to everyone and there may already be a similar thread posted... but I need to do this for my own personal sanity!!!

I bought my tickets literally the minute they went on sale for the WICKED tour in SanFrancisco and have been totally psyched to drive 12 hrs away and see Stephanie J. Block as Elphaba in August. But now I hear she won't be doing it and I am CRUSHED!!!

Eden Espinosa, the supposed replacement, is really hard to find info on. So, for those of you who have seen her, how is she??? Will she do the part justice??? Can I still go expecting just as good a show??? How will she compare with Steph? and Idina? Is it worth my 12 hour drive???

PLZ! I need to know before I go crazy!!!

P.S. does anyone know where I can go to find sound clips of Eden???? I really wanna know what this girl has got to offer. thanx!

Eden was my first Elphaba, and I thought she was great. Of course, I didn't know anything about the show before I saw it (besides the general concept), so I wasn't jaded by everyone's opinions.

Enjoy the show!

There are a ton of Eden clips floating around out there. However, you could just go buy the Brooklyn Cast Recording and listen to 'Once Upon a Time'...she's amazing on it. The song is very cheesy, but Eden is wonderful.

Never saw her as Elphaba, but her voice is fantastic if you're into crazy, belty screaming.

So basically, if you liked Idina...

I can't stand her. I wouldn't waste my money buying the Brooklyn cast album either. Just click on the link below and listen to the song samples from the show on Amazon.com to get an idea of what she sounds like.

...and I totally second vonTussle, if you like screaming like Idina's and add a little bit of screetching than you'll be in love with Eden.

True that, she does like to scream

Yeah, she goes into her "head voice" quite a bit. But I think she has a pretty good voice. She was on Seth's Chatterbox a while back and sang Defying Gravity. I thought she was excellent until the last riffs. She, as you probably already know, screamed them.

I love Idina, don't like Eden.

She gives me a headache.

Now Ramona Keller is awesome!

I never saw Eden as Elphaba in the full show, but I saw her as Elphaba at Broadway in Bryant Park last summer an d she was fantastic.

I rather enjoy her take on Elphaba. As I watched Stephanie, who not only left out lots of higher notes, was a little out of control, meaning she WAY over acted. So, I think it's well worth the drive. Enjoy! re: Opinions on Eden Espinosa as Elphaba! plz!

I never saw Eden as Elphaba but from what I've heard, everyone who saw her loved her. I did see her in BKLYN though and she was amazing. By the way, that stuff about her "screaming" or "screeching" is getting just a little bit old. If you've ever seen Eden live then you would know that she does not screech at all. Go on limewire or something of the sort and you can hear clips of her as Elphaba. But trust me, it will be well worth the 12 hour drive...I live in MI and would be willing to go to San Fran just to see Eden...I think it's already sold out though re: Opinions on Eden Espinosa as Elphaba! plz!

I've heard audios of every woman who's played Elphaba thus far, and Eden's "The Wizard and I" is by far my favorite. And her "Defying Gravity" is different, but I really like it.

Eden Espinosa has inspired me so much. Words can not describe this amazing singer. She has a voice like no other and it is such a blessing to hear it!

I saw her in NY in her first performance as Elphaba, I was so disappointed that it wasn't Idina, but I was actually quite impressed, and I am sure she can only have gotten better since then. She has a great voice, though sometimes it wasn't entirely suited for the lowest of the notes. She was a little pitchy on Defying Gravity, but apparently she was very uncomfortable with the mechanics yet. I am sure that she will do an awesome job though.

go to http://www.brooklynthemusical.com they usually have a couple songs you can listen to for free. But Once Upon a Time is definately your best bet to hear how great her voice is. Updated On: 7/12/05 at 08:32 PM

Yeah, I was listening to her rendition of "I'm not that girl" and thought that when she sang that really low end note it sounded a bit strange...but she's a first soprano so that would only be normal...I can hardly hit that without it sounding weird and I'm second soprano. I still think she has very good range though.

I've never seen her live but I've heard clips of her singing Defying Gravity, No Good Deed, The Wizard and I, For Good and What is This Feeling? and based off those, I was really very impressed with her vocal talents. Can't really say whether I liked her acting or not as I've never seen it firsthand but based off how she sounded, I really liked her as Elphaba. I may have to drive to SF so I can see her. :-P

I personally think the Eden Espinosa is wonderful. I have never heard her sing Wicked but I have heard her in Brooklyn and I think she is wonderful!

I thought that Stephanie was still doing the tour though?

She has an excellent voice and is great in the part. You won't be dissapointed seeing her. Actually, I would say you are lucky. I saw Stephanie and Idina and I thought Eden was better then both, and I did love Idina. Of course, that's just my opinion though.

I say, drive the 12 hours to see it! ^__^

Never saw her in Wicked, but I saw her performance at Bryant Park last summer. I believe she sang The Wizard and I, As Long as You're Mine, and For Good. She was good. I liked her much better singing these songs then the ones from Brooklyn. My one comment was that it sounded like she was trying to make her voice deeper and it sounded awkward. Did anyone else pick up on that?
