Okay, so generally I wouldn't post about this but I'm singing Defying Gravity for my last Choir concert before i graduate, and I’m so excited! I was originally going to sing FOR GOOD w/ my best friend, who can sing like a mofo, but that "runs in her family”, but my director decided the whole choir would sing it. That’s okay b/c I got the solo in that so I now I get to sing 2 WICKED songs and I get to Sing the FOR GOOD solo at graduation for about 6'000 people. YAY>Wish me luck.

Oh, I don't doubt you'll have fun. Just a warning that this kind of thread... attracts all kinds of feedback that is... less than the enthusiasm you're looking for.
But congrats on the part. And enjoy it.

Why are so many people rushing to sing this song? Don't get me wrong, I think it's a great tune, I truly enjoy it. However, it's tricky to sing. It requires a high belt, which is really annoying when girls sing it in some light and fluffy head voice. It just never sounds right. I worked with this one girl in my last production, one of the most obnoxious girls EVER, and all she EVER sang was "Defying Gravity," "No Good Deed," and "Once Upon a Time." This is someone with little to NO range, all she did was sing in this annoying head voice, and it just KILLED the songs. I love "Wicked" and it's score as much as the next person, but there are some truly wonderful pieces of music to choose from, if anyone so chooses to search further. Just my humble opinion, sorry.
"Johanna" is a wonderful song.It is one of my favorite from SWEENEY TODD. and FOR GOOD is a two person song, but the choral arrangement has soloist singing from"I'ev heard it said...because i knew you" and starting "it well may be...rewritten mine by being my friend" and of course where elphba and Glinda sing together and the chior has oh's and ah's.
I am the Sondheim Whore. Sweeney Todd is my all time favorite show, fallowed by Assassins. My choir director didn’t believe me when I said I know the entire score to Sweeney Todd, Sunday in the Park, Assassins, Company and into the woods until I went my car got the sheet music for all of them (yes, I carry around sheet music, I’m not ashamed) and told her to pick a song and I would sing it. And as far as the belting goes, I’m a boy and had Defying Gravity transposed into a lower key. Raul and me. <<
just makes it THAT much more funny when even boys think they can bring the house down with that song. at least when I did it I was intentionally making a mockery of everyone who's ever sung it. this is just sad...
Oh my...again, I love it, but as a man, I don't want to sing it. I'll stick with "I Don't Care Much" and "Poor Child" and "My Boy Bill," you know, songs written for men.
CATS, I’m so glad you have heard me sing and no what I can and cannot do. Believe me if it was anything less than wonderful (no pun intended) my director wouldn’t let me walk out on that stage unless I was doing a different song.
