Probably. They were filming last week on 6th. If your friend is a club extra, it's probably being filmed at Club 6 between Mission and Market St. (I was there last week to check out the area! Kinda shady, but cool if you can see them film!)

No idea either. The area around Club 6 is dodgy (not to mention the exterior of it), to say the least, but when I read that they were using it as the Cat Scratch, I googled it and the interior is better than I thought! Totally what I imagined it would look like in the show.

I saw a script where they meet at CBGB's; and on compulsivebowlers.org they said Club six was being used as that location. I also saw an article about it in SFGate:"It will be good for the neighborhood, which already is going through a renaissance," says Angel Cruz, owner of Club Six, which will replicate CBGB's, a famous New York rock club. Cruz said location scouts were impressed by the "urban artwork" on his club's exterior "painted by the best graffiti artists in the city." About 400 extras are expected to swarm around Sixth, which probably will be closed to traffic for part of the filming. Here is the link:http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2005/03/25/DDGQMBTQ091.DTL
CBGB's was in the original script, which is where Roger and his band were singing "Rent" and then Mark joined him on stage. That was part of the Chbosky script, and most of the elements that Chbosky added were no longer in.
Hopefully my assumption in the fact that that's a mistake is correct. I'm pretty sure it's going to be the Cat Scratch... I'm not even sure if CBGB's is in the movie at all, even if that first scene isn't in.
Oops! I didn't realize it was going to be CBGB's. In the SF Examiner, it said Cat Scratch. Sounds awesome. I was stopped by a couple of folks who live in the neighbourhood while I was taking pictures of the exteriors of some locations on 6th, and we were talking about the Rent filming for a bit. Unsurprisingly, it seems the locals have mixed feelings about it. Anyway, the point is he said they were filming on Mission and 6th this past Wednesday as well and that cops were blocking off that area too. I think it said somewhere that production was going on from March 21-31 there so it makes sense. I guess Rent's time on location is coming to an end soon!
(PS. I actually just visited SF for the first time last week, and I'm very envious of you. I'm a big fan of your city now!)

There is a version out there where the two meet at CBGB's, but unless I am on set, I really wont know. *sigh* wish I was there. Anyone in SF going to take a look see? I would love to have pics of Roger and April!
I think it's a mix-up, but I've only read the Choborschsoupsky script, so I don't really know the updates. All I know is the Examiner said Cat Scratch. I don't know which one is right. I have a feeling it's not CBGB though.

What makes you think it's a flashback? (Not challenging you, I honestly have no idea.) Could it be a montage for the beginning of the movie so that Mark's comments about flyers from CBGB makes more sense?

Because I saw what I'm pretty certain is the opening sequence of the movie. It's not CBGB's. I don't want to post what it IS, because I don't know if I'm allowed to, but if that's the starting point, anything with April only makes sense to be a flashback.
Okay, I'll take your word for it then. (And pookie wookie lovey dovey, you have that nifty PM icon AND my IM sn --surely just because you can't post the beginning sequence PUBLICLY doesn't mean.........? *stroking hair adoringly*)

Oh, okay. There are two versions that are pretty readily available. That's the first draft that Columbus had a part in, and the second "official" draft. It's changed a lot since then.
I hope there is a flashback of Roger as a rocker at some place like CBGB's, whether or not that includes him meeting April. Seeing him charged up on stage would add depth to his later depression and seclusion.
Club Six in Frisco is being used as CBGBs. I got a buddy up there who was an extra, and he heard this information.
And LuvTheEmcee, do you know for a fact that what you saw is the opening sequence? If not, then stop trying to set it in stone if you don't know everything.
Honey, I was on the set. I watched them shoot it, and I saw it on a monitor as it will appear on screen. If you know anything about the story, you can tell that this is very likely the beginning of the movie. Nobody looked at me and said "okay, here you go. This is the opening sequence," and I don't think I can outwardly say what it is, but just have some faith that it makes a lot of sense. You can tell what the opening of a movie looks and feels like, and I do believe I know the score. And I'm not trying to set anything in stone. I told Tiff what I thought and what I was "pretty certain" was the opening sequence of the movie. But then again, you're Jesus, so you must know it all, too, right? Read what I say next time - then criticize me. Thanks.
I'd love to have a few shots of Adam rockin' out on stage at a club. Very, very much.

I was with Emcee on the set that day. It was pretty obvious that what they were filming was the opening sequence. It was shortly follow by the beginning instrumentals of the title song "Rent".
Now it was not confirmed to us by any cast or crew members that this was indeed the opening, but any Rent fan that was there and are semi-knowledgable of the current (well most recent that have been available to us) screenplay, one can feel pretty confident in making this claim.
