Wow harsh words! Ya know something will be closing here by Sept. My friend's sister is going to Broadway in a musical called Princesses and they have a theatre but the name hasn't been disclosed neither has the date because it's in a theatre that is currently occupied. I don't wanna see any of these close but I could see Movin' Out leave soon or Brooklyn with the low rates of ticket sales. Who knows though.

There is never any show I wish would close. If I don't like it I would just stay away. Why would I wish hundreds of people out of work because of my personal preferences. Besides even a show you hate has fans, so some people are enjoying it...

Its a show that is set to open in the summer i think...choreographed by Debbie Allen...her first bway show since Carrie. With a title like that, it is bound to be a flop. Here is the synopsis from playbill.com:

GIRL GROUP TIME TRAVELERS

First Preview: July 2005

Opening: TBA

Director: Debbie Allen

Choreographer: Debbie Allen

A new musical with pop songs about a 1960's singing trio who bring a lovelorn teen back in time.

Well, I don't *wish* any shows to close -- the actors need the work.

HOWEVER...I didn't shed a tear when Les Miz, Cats, or Saigon finally shuttered.

I did shed a tear (figuratively) when A Chorus Line and Fantasticks closed, though. It was so hard to imagine the Shubert not having ACL, and not having Fantasticks running.

I'm an ol' fart, I know.

"With a title like that, it is bound to be a flop."

Forget the title. With Debbie Allen as both director and choreographer, it is guaranteed to flop. Debbie Allen is a dancer, she is not a choreographer.

Girl Group Time Travelers? Who the heck was willing to finance a show with that title?

I don't wish the show to close to put people out on the streets, but in the effort to introduce new talent on the great white way as well as new composers, lyricists, writers, and shows, I'd say that Brooklyn should go, as well as Good Vibrations and Phantom.

I think Rent is still too...it still speaks to so many people - it's like, a stage of life for people in theatre - you get to middle/high school and are a fanatic of rent, it's just something you do as a right of passage almost.

Phantom I don't think is enough of a classic (just my opinion) worth occupying a space that a bright new show could take, and Brooklyn - well, why is it even still there? It had it's chance and now it's just taking that space away from something else that deserves a chance to make it or break it. Why keep that show in there on life support rather than letting in a breath of fresh air? Same with Good Vibrations.

just my opinion. I don't wish anything ill on any of the performers but...I mean, you gotta do some spring cleaning every once in awhile, right?

even the best of shows have closed, just part of the business.

exactly...it is going to be a flop. it's going to be the next carrie or moose murders or prymate. well, actually it'll prolly be the next bobbie boland...since it might close in previews! maybe we'll all be suprised and it'll be a huge hit? who knows.

"Girl Group Time Travelers? Who the heck was willing to finance a show with that title?"

Somebody went to a workshop, got plied with cheap wine, got a bit too tipsy and signed on the dotted line before they realized what they were doing.

Unfortunately, it happens quite a lot on Broadway. But at least the Champale people are making a bundle.

Girl Group Time Travelers is a Debbie Allen revision of the Off-Broadway review, Beehive.

Since when has Movin' Out had low ticket sales? Rarely has it dipped below $500k and has lately been over $600k per week. And how could it not be classified as a Broadway show? Any show that plays a Broadway house whether it is a play, musical, solo performance, magic act, stand-up comedy, opera or anything else is a Broadway show. It's actually a ballet, not a musical, but it certainly deserves to be on Broadway as much as anything else and it obviously has stood the test of time. It was a risky venture that paid off and has turned into a hit. Sounds a bit more deserving of being a Broadway show than some others that have recently run despite nearly unanimous scathing reviews from both critics and audiences. Movin' Out has proven that its place on Broadway is well-deserved.

To say that The Lion King is a circus means you obviously have either never seen The Lion King or never been to the circus. Or perhaps the artistry in its costumes, designs, and choreography were lost on you.

I don't wish any shows to close. Every show closes eventually and every show has its admirers. To wish closure on a show simply because you dislike it is not only selfish and immature, but it shows complete disregard to the hundreds of people who earn their living from each and every performance of that show. If each show closed that someone didn't like, Broadway wouldn't exist.

My only beef are the long-running shows that morph into phoned-in factory performances that have lost virtually every aspect of the original production. If the performances drop, then the price should as well. What I saw of Rent last summer was not worth more than $25 and it was one of my favorite shows.

Why not wish a bad show to close? If the people in/on it are that good, then they should be free to work on a show that's better suited to their talents.

I really don't wish that any Broadway show would close at the moment. I do think that there are a few productions who have gotten tired and outstayed their welcome.

A closed production would mean another vacant theatre.

another vacant theatre? There are currently no theatres that are vacant without a show already announced for them. The only way for anything new to open is for a show to close.

That being said I will never wish a show to close, I find it rude to actors, and all the people associated with the production.
