WHEN THE FLU STRIKES#0
Posted: 11/9/03 at 10:16am
I've been reading so much about the cancelling of WONDERFUL TOWN due to the flu.

In January 1941 a flu epidemic went around that shuttered most of the Broadway productions for 2 weeks. Everyone was so sick that most of the producers had no choice but to close down for a while. I've also heard from my daughter-in-law in New York who writes that she had been extremely sick this past week.

So please give Ms. Murray time to recover. You might all be the better for it!

Miriam,it is truly a rough flu out there.

In the film FAME there is the line

"dancers don't get sick"

Do you recall ever performing while you were ill???? :))

Miriam, please write your autobiography of those wonderful days you spent on Broadway. You can put me down for 5 copies.
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

So has everyone had their flu shot? I got mine at work. It always makes me a little ill for a day or two afterwards but I think it's worth it. I make my Mom (85) get her shot as well.

The irony...I had tickets for Wonderful Town today...and have the flu myself.
For once it worked in my favor; what are the chances?

Had the flu shot last week, too. Can only assume this is a different strain.

Miriam, I had never heard about that 1941 flu.
That would make a fascinating article HINT HINT HINT.
In fact, here's a title: "THE FLU THAT SHUT DOWN BROADWAY".
"Christ, Bette Davis?!?!"

I can't get a flu shot because of an egg allergy. You would think that with all the advances in medicine they would have by now found a way around that.

Oddly enough, I have never had the flu.

That is ironic. I hope you feel better soon. I had tickets for today's performance also.

My mother's a doctor, so thankfully I've been kept up to date on all of my shots (especially since illnesses galore are going around campus). And what I mean when I say being kept up to date is having my mother come to visit me for a weekend, walking up to me to say hello and rolling my sleeve up. The next thing I know she's throwing away the needle and my arm smells of rubbing alcohol. Then she asks me how classes are going.

I love my mom.

In the UK you have to be over 65 to get a flu shot I think, they don't recommend it as essential to those under.
