I was thinking last night while listening to Ragtime how much I would love to direct it and realized there are quite a few shows I would love to try my hand at directing. I have interesting concepts for many musicals and think I could stage them quite interestingly. My top 5 are:
1. Ragtime 2. Lippa's Wild Party 3. RENT 4. West Side Story 5. Aida
Others on my extended list include Fiddler, Guys and Dolls, Cabaret, Beauty and the Beast and Millie. I think the reason for the ones that made my top 5 are because of their epic nature and how they capture the eras they are set in so well and create their own little (or big) world onstage.
So what about you guys...What shows would you love to direct.
hmmm... five? The one show I would LOVE to direct is Cabaret, because so much is left open to interpretation. There's a lot you can do with it. Not sure what else.
AGNES OF GOD COME BACK TO THE FIVE AND DIME JIMMY DEAN, JIMMY DEAN
"Noah, someday we'll talk again. But there's things we'll never say. That sorrow deep inside you. It inside me, too. And it never go away. You be okay. You'll learn how to lose things..."
I think I could direct Wicked better than what Joe mantello lazily pulled off. So i'll say that if only to fix the numerous things I see wrong in the direction.
Then.. Cabaret Urinetown PLay it Again Sam Chess Little Me

hmm... there are so many, i wanna be a director when i grow up, so: Assassins, The Wiz, Into the Woods, Taboo, City of Angels
the list goes on and on and on and on and on and on...
"Picture "The View," with the wisecracking, sympathetic sweethearts of that ABC television show replaced by a panel of embittered, suffering or enraged Arab women" -the Times review of Black Eyed
- Chess - Romeo et Juliet - Into the woods - Rear Window - Titanic
I would love to re-work the book and lyrics for the following shows:
- Dracula the Musical - Dance of the Vampires - Romeo and Juliet
See Ya!
Phantom05
------- "We Drink Your Blood And Then We Eat Your Soul, Nothings Gonna Stop Us Let The Bad Times Roll"
-------"Past The Point Of No Return, No Backward Glances, Abandon Thought And Let The Dream Begin"
I like to direct shows where I think I can attempt to "fix" what's broken (the writer in me, I like challenges). So:
1. Merrily: Because I have this grand scheme where I'm deluded enough to believe that I can "fix" it on the whole. 2. Rent: Because I'd like to take a stab at seeing how the choppy Act 2 can be a bit smoother, and less confusing. I think it's entirely possible with a fresh look at it. 3. Urinetown: Because I think that during the scenes that drag (read: not as funny), I think more humor can be put into them. You don't even *need* to change the book. 4. TickTickBoom: Just looks like it would be fun to work with 3 good actors in a show like this. 5. JCS: Because I want to set it ON THE MOON! Pharisees as space monkeys! Judas in a space suit!
Good choices guys...I agree with most of them. I would love to try my hand at most of the shows listed, including some of the flawed ones, to see if I can smooth them out a little.
Les Misérables(Just because!) Damn Yankees(Great Dancing!) Phantom(For the emotion!) Wicked(It would be swankified!) West Side Story(Since I saw it last week!)
