Which brings up (as usual) who replaces her when she leaves or does the show just close?

Are you sure that is the percentage and not the average age of the audience?

LOL!

I'm sorry but 70-80 % cap makes you a "legend"...??

shee-et!

If it was Queen Latifah in "Gypsy" you best believe it would be 101.05% capacity..

does that make Queenie a legend..?

That's horrible. Advance sales will be what keeps this show open. It just damn well better not close before I see it in December.

PJ, after the ordeal you went through to get those tickets, I hope for all of our sakes that it stays open till then. Really, I doubt it will close before the holidays, and is only in a slump since BP is down in Jamaca, or wherever she vacations.

Keep in mind that GYPSY has never been a smash, even with Merman. It did quite well in April, May and June. These percentages in September and early October aren't bad at all. I love her but I wouldn't actually call her a legend. But she returns to Broadway regularly, stays in shows for a long time and draws people to the show on her name alone (ANNIE GET YOUR GUN which did even better business even though it got horrible reviews and she wasn't very good in the role).

I'm not sure anyone will replace her. When she's done, it's done.

There has been a lot of **RUMORS** that Bette Midler will take over the role! Now mind you this is only a rumor, and I could be completely wrong!! Sales will pick up during this week!

The show was consistently in the high 90s or the high 80s until that first week in September when all the shows took a dip. It seems it was stuck in the 70s all of September. I know September is a rough month for shows but does anyone know when it typically picks up? November?

End of November/Early December....closer to the holidays. It always hits a bump in September because that is when there are less tourists, kids (by that I mean college and highschool) going back to school who can't go to a show during the week; therefore family vacations are slim, which brings some of the adult attendance down. Plus, a lot of new shows open in October, so people like to see those while they're fresh, rather than see a show that's been running for a few months.

I saw the show on the wednesday of the week Bernadette wasnt there, and absolutely loved it...There were many open seats, and people even left when they heard she wasnt in it, but I think Maureen Moore did a fantastic job...I think she should take the role when Bernadette leaves...She (Maureen) was born to be Rose...

I had a dream... I dreamed it for you June... It wasn't for me Herbie... And if it wasn't for me, then where would you be, Miss. Gypsy Rose Lee?

Well if she garners 45% capacity for one week, I think I could bet my first child that she is not in the running for taking over the role when Bernadette leaves. re: re: Ouch! Gypsy with no BP 45% capacity

I enjoyed Maureen's performance as well, plus because so many people didn't go I moved up for the second act and sat in the second row of the orchestra re: re: re: Ouch! Gypsy with no BP 45% capacity lol

Maureen was excellent, and man can she sing; but she unfortunately doesn't have the star power to pull in a big enough audience for the Shubert Theater. re: re: re: Ouch! Gypsy with no BP 45% capacity

When BP comes back it will be for a short while then she will find some reason to get out of her contract, (still smarting from not getting the Tony), she will exit and sadly the show will stagger on for a few months and die with a lesser name. This senario happens again and again on Broadway. I'd bet money on it.

Isn't that funny? I hear she's thinking about extending her one year contract by six months.

Since "Gypsy" also is on our list of shows we might catch next week (see my "Lion King" thread above), would somebody tell me if Ms. Peters is expected to be back on the boards by then?

Thank you.

Bernadette took a one week vacation last week. She returned to the show on Monday night, 10/6.
