just thought this was strange...
i just got an email from one of my friends who also went to the chess dress rehearsal last week and she had a blast of course, but one thing kinda bothered her.....she's met sutton foster a bunch of times and sutton's remembered her and supposedly every time she's been really sweet. at the rehearsal, she planned to go and just quickly reintroduce herself etc....since the cast was walking around during breaks. during the rehearsal, she got up to get a drink from the lobby and on her way back to her seat she saw sutton wandering in her direction and she kind of saw sutton straight look up and do a 180 in the other direction, barely making eye contact. (and no, she's not one of those fans who totally mob actors in any way). of course this made my friend feel kind of uncomfortable and embarrassed, which is why she didn't tell me that day. this really surprised me, since i have also talked to sutton once or twice and she's always seemed nice.
anyway, my friend doesn't tend to overreact to things but this has pretty much mortified her, since she is a huge sutton fan. we were even going to see TMM again but she doesn't know if she even wants to go now (but i'm sure i can talk her into it).
i just thought this sounded odd...and definitely makes me glad i didn't attempt to talk to her. i don't know....maybe she was having a bad day? but that doesn't even make sense because she always seems to be really good to her fans......
anyone care to comment?

Is she SURE sutton saw HER? Sutton is THE sweetest of all people on Broadway, I could never imagine her doing anything with the intention of being mean. She seemed in a REALLY good mood that day to me. I mean, even when there's nutty people arond her she's polite and friendly. By the way, I must mention here that she was the only one that stayed around to talk to EVERYBODY at the stage door the night of the concert.

I can think of three (of dozens of) possibilities. I have sometimes been so engrossed in thoughts (like an actor at a rehearsal might be) that I have appeared to be rude to friends because I just didn't even recognize that the people coming towards me were friends of mine. They've had to call out to me to get me to snap out of wherever I was in my head.

I've also not had on corrective eyewear and not been able to actually see people I recognized out of my normal field of vision and sometimes those people have included my very own relatives.

I've also not gotten into conversations with people I have chatted with in a professional capacity when I am out in the real world in my off-the-clock life and I simply didn't have the energy to put that other hat on.

Or, maybe Sutton is really horrible and these "she's such a nice person" reports have all been part of a big scam she has perpetrated for years.

I heard before she made it big Sutton was a pick-pocket. Oh, wait. No she wasn't. That was my no-good cousin, Dutton.

Well, there's somethign I could tell you that would make the idea of Sutton not being a nice person go away, but I've been instructed to keep it asecret re: re: sutton - what's up with this? Look, chances are she didn't even recognize your friend, I mean, she doesn't look around for her fans everywhere, I think she's unaware of the fact that she's loved widely enough to have fans at the rehersal for the Chess conert. Sometime's she'll be walking down the street and not notice that I'm there until she's literally a few steps away. She doesn't go around lookiing for her fans everywhere, I'm sure she just didn't notice her.

It was mid rehearsal, right?

And this was for CHESS -- which Sutton had to come into at the last minute and play catch up with the cast and be as prepared as they were. Um, can we say STRESS?

Mid rehearsal and stress = not good.

Perhaps Sutton was headed toward your friend to ask for assistance but the stage manager hit her homing device, the chip that is implanted in every Broadway actor's head, that forces them to return to the stage even though they may not want to. It's a big Broadway secret which has slowly leaked out over the years.

I am not a huge fan or a total hater, but I do know that when I am in rehersal I couldn't give a crap about who's there... I AM CONCENTRATING ON THE SHOW AND WHAT I WILL BE DOING NEXT ETC. Sorry for the caps but, come on. Also, she was a replacement at the last minute, right? She was probably VERY busy.

Maybe Sutton was constipated?

I mean, That'll do it!

Namo, I heard they wanted Sutton to play Cherry Valance in the forthcoming 'Outsiders: The Musical.' They're trying to get Lief Garrett to play Darry.

Well, I've never been a huge fan, but if it turns out that Sutton is a raging b*tch with a drinking problem, she'll have a new fan in me!

I think a family-sized, gift-wrapped jar of Metamucil delivered to Sutton's dressing room would say "Message: I care."
