Funny Girl 09/23/2002 The Actors Fund hosts a special concert version of the musical Funny Girl with numerous stage stars alternating in the title role of Fanny Brice. These include: Carolee Carmello, Kristin Chenoweth, Sutton Foster, Ana Gasteyer, Whoopi Goldberg, Spencer Kayden, Jane Krakowski, Judy Kuhn, La Chanze, Ricki Lake, Andrea Martin, Idina Menzel, Julia Murney, Bebe Neuwirth and Lillias White. 1939 Sigmund Freud, the founder of psychoanalysis, died in London.

1946 There is a vote today on behalf of the New York Drama Critics Circle to ensure a "best play" citation every year, no matter what the quality of the year's offerings. 1946 poses no problem, however; Arthur Miller's post-war classic, All My Sons, is the winner for Best American Play.

1968 The Juilliard School starts its new four-year program of the Drama Division. As classes begin today, Kevin Kline and Patti LuPone are present. The school's director, John Houseman, will go on to call this first class of students "Group I". Among other graduates of this prestigious school are William Hurt, Christopher Reeve and Kevin Spacey.

1973 Former Argentine president Juan Peron was returned to power.

1987 Legendary dancer and choreographer, Bob Fosse, died today while walking down a Washington, D.C. street with wife Gwen Verdon. He had been directing a revival of Sweet Charity at the National Theatre. Fosse's style of choreography will always be remembered from the original Broadway productions of Chicago and Pippin. The hit musical revue of his choreography, Fosse, opened on Broadway in 1999 and went on to win the 1999 Tony Award for Best Musical.

26... I know it's not old, but I sure am having aging issues!
