I saw this news item posted on the IMDB news site. No mention elsewhere of the possibility of Nathan and Matthew taking the show to London, though I just saw another article about the show opening in the fall of 2004 -- no cast mentioned. Interesting, but I couldn't see SJP as Ulla! She can't belt and can barely sing!
Sex and the City' Star Heads for London Sex And The City star Sarah Jessica Parker is relocating to London for six months - to support husband Matthew Broderick's stage career. The sassy actress - who will say goodbye to character Carrie Bradshaw next year - will leave her native New York with her husband and baby son James Wilke. Ferris Bueller's Day Off star Broderick is bringing his family to the UK so he can reprise his role in Broadway smash The Producers on the West End stage. And savvy producers are already trying to persuade Parker to join the production as the main love interest. The last time the husband and wife team appeared on stage together was in How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying - the show was a Broadway hit. A source says if she accepts the part, "It will put Sarah at the top of the list for the part when they make the movie of the musical."
I mentioned in another thread that I'd heard the pairing of Nathan /Mathew in London wasn't going to happen as the cost was prohibitive. A friend who works at the Prince Edward Theatre in London (where The Producers was to have played) was told this as were all cast members of Mamma Mia which was to have moved to allow The Producers the large musical house. They have since been told that the move is not imminent. I had heard that Robert Lindsay (Me and My Girl) had been approached to play Max. Maybe the pairing of Sarah and Mathew is cheaper (package deal!).
That IMDB article seemed a bit fishy to me. From what I'd been hearing for some time, it didn't seem to add up and there was no mention of it anywhere else. It's nice to hear, however, that the show will finally open in London.
The suggestion of LEE EVANS as Leo from Playbill - he played Nathan Lane's brother in MOUSE HUNT (ugh!) and was also in SOMETHING ABOUT MARY - is BRILLIANT. This is on target for a change! He had a BBC Comedy series that showed how terifically funny he is, and this was maybe 6 years or so ago!
