Love this thread.

I grew up watching both PEABODY and PIERCE on tv. They are black and white still shots in my late 1950's brain. Then, when I was a young teen, she started selling hostess twinkies on TV. Everytime she said "...cupcakes and Ho Ho's..." I giggled.

But back to your point: PEABODY was magic to me, everything about it was alluring (of course, it's worth studying -- a middle aged man having a sexual fantasy about a woman who ... uh... doesn't really have the means to consumate the act is quite a rich tale, or should I say 'tail.') Still, she's forever Veda. Every time I see her say "...my mother, a common waitress..." I want to smack her.

I prefer her as Marsinah, in KISMET. My parents tell of a production of THE SOUND OF MUSIC, where she was costumed in completely inappropriate dresses, with color-matching shoes, as Maria.

I've only seen her in 2 movies.
Mildred Pierce and Kismet
I liked her in both.

She's just to deliciously evil in Mildred Pierce. How can you not like her after watching her young teenage ass slap the crap out of Crawford?

And living to tell the tale!

Absolutely voting for the Hostess Cupcakes commercials!!

I love the Designing Women when Charlene starts to blather about Ann Blythe and that commercial!
"Carson has combined his passion for helping children with his love for one of Cincinnati's favorite past times - cornhole - to create a unique and exciting event perfect for a corporate outing, entertaining clients or family fun."

Gogi Grant! Didn't she seen "The Wayward Wind?"

But since we first commented on this a year ago, has anyone seen PEABODY? Is it on video or DVD? I haven't seen it in years. By the way -- Douglass Wallop, who wrote the novel DAMN YANKEES was based on, also wrote a mermaid in the pool book. Must've been a major fantasy at some point. But I never understand why, again, since a fish woman has only ... gills.
