Who are all of your Kings, Queens, Princesses and Princes of Broadway? The Kings and Queens are people have done a lot, and will be remembered forever as musical theater legends who are currently, or have reigned over the musical theater world. The Princes and Princesses are people who have done a few things, but will eventually become Kings and Queens who will make their mark and be remembered for their talents. These people can be dead or alive, but remember, there can only be one of each! King: The first name that comes to mind is Brian Stokes MItchell. This man has a voice that cannot be beat. NOt a lot of people think he's overrated. There's no doubt he can act. He can be comedic- Kiss Me Kate, serious- Man of La Mancha, in love, upset, etc. And that voice is so beautiful, and has such a rich tone. I am never dissapointed with his it. He sings with so much passion, and is such an amazing performer. That man is definately my Broadway King. Queen: Julie Andrews, without a doubt. The woman is a legend, and will be when she's gone. She has made an inevitable mark on the musical theater world. She used to have a voice that was too perfect to be true. Whenever people think of her, you think of a Broadway legend. She is too talented to ever be forgotten. We all know there will never be another Julie Andrews. Prince: My Broadway Prince is Gavin Creel. I know, I know, he hasn't done much, but he is so amazingly talented and he draws everyone to him on stage. His voice is so great. And he has the personality- this charisma about him and that makes him such an amazing performer. He produces such magic onstage. I think when he gets older, he will do some great things, and will do shows that REALLY showcase his talent, because there is no doubt that he has a lot! Princess: Sutton Foster. She is my Broadway Princess, hands down. Now, if we want to talk about fantastic voices, let's talk about her. That voice is pure gold. To me, it's perfect in every way. She shines. She is going to do such great things. She sparkles in Millie. Her voice, her acting, her comedic timing, her chemistry with the other actors...she can't get any better. She will be remembered forever for what she can do. She is pure magic. In no way is she overrated. Those are my Broadway Royals. Who are yours?

I'd definately go with BSM for King, for Queen I'd say Eartha Kitt just for giggles, she's fun! For Prince I have to go with Max Von Essen, and For Princess, Kerry Butler! WOOOHOO I know she's going to be a queen later on.
My King: Brian Stokes Mitchell My Queen: Patti Lupone Prince: Chris Seiber Princess: Sutton Foster
"Life is not measured by the number
of breaths we take, but by moments
that take our breath away."
"Life isn't about how to survive the storm,
but how to dance in the rain."
Prince and princess: Gavin Creel and Sutton Foster, hands down, for all the same reasons you mentioned, and they were just golden together. Queen: Donna Murphy, she had the pretiest voice I ever heard, until Sutton came along. King: Nathan Lane, in a close call over Brian Stokes Mitchell. Nathan is just more fun to watch.

Billy, An intersting post. Totally subjective responses of course. Mine included.
I'll have to give my responses thought but i am sure that of all the male musical performers to ever grace the boards of Broadway I'd be hard pressed to list Mr. Mitchell so near the top of my list. Funny how the same performer can cause different reactions in people. I found BSM wooden in both RAGTIME and KMK. For example, he comes no where near Mr. Robert Preston for sheer stage presence, but that's only my opinion. BSM lacks star quality (as do many tapping feet currently on the stages of NYC).
I like Broadway Lady's choices as well. I'm suprised no one else put Julie Andrews. I definately agree with Matt Cavenagh being a prince. Him and Matt Morrison and Gavin were the three I HAD to choose from, but Gavin beats all!
King: Marc Kudisch (just because I'm insane amounts of in love with him... LOL) Queen: Emily Skinner (...because... she kicks all kinds of ass! I really don't think any explanation is needed here!)
After last night, she made a new fan in me... she definitely just went straight to being my Broadway princess for the sole reason that she wants to combine Mr. Rodgers with porn???!! LOL And the fact that she was singing his songs on top of a piano at one point with a cigarette in her mouth. :) She's cool people. I aspire to sing Mr. Rodgers songs on top of pianos. Heh. :)

Although I absolutely adore The Sensuous Mr. Wilson, I'm going to have to decree him a Prince rather than a King. Part of it is because of his youthful age (only 30!) and even though he gives a majestic performance every time he steps on a stage, I feel his best is still yet to come. I'm sure he gave stellar performances in TENDERLOIN and BRIGHT LIGHTS, BIG CITY, and I *know* he did in THE FULL MONTY AND OKLAHOMA. But I think his best is yet to come. I'm sure as soon as he finishes his forays into film, he will come back to the stage and astound us all over again.
Then again, it was only a couple of years ago he ruled the stage and was the talk of broadway. So maybe's he's king after all!
Court Jester: Nathan Lane (Sorry, I Had To Add That, Hahahaha!!!)
See Ya!

Good idea, actually. Court Jester can be added to your list, too. But it would have to be the funniest actor/actress on Broadway. I most definitely second Nathan Lane!
King: Nathan Lane (He's just great! Funny as hell!) Queen: Bernadette Peters (A true triple threat in my eyes) Prine: Adam Pascal (He rocks! Too bad RENT ruined his voice) Princess: Kristin Chenoweth (She's cute and has a great voice!)
I wanted to list Sutton Foster, but I couldn't deside what her title could be, hmmmmmmmmmmmm............Would "Damsel In Distress" work, hahaha, who knows?!?
Bye!

King: Brent Barrett. That voice makes me shiver and melt at the same time. Queen: Victoria Clark. She is the true definition of professionalism and versatility. My runner up is Chita Rivera, because when she steps on that stage, she is the definition of legend. Prince: Michael Berresse, for his adorable Frank Sinatra/Bing Crosby voice, sweet personality, and those ABS! My runner up is Matt Lashey, for his tenor and his tapping ability. Princess: Kerry O'Malley, for her fabulous belt and for attacking Gregg Edelman like a dog in heat at every performance of ITW. My runner up is Laura Benanti, for her haunting rendition of Unusual Way and her genuine personality.
Laura Benanti and Matt Lashey are very strong runner ups for me as well. I know, I know- this post is a hard one. You especially flaemmchen, know how much I love Matt Lashey. He has so much talent.
