I need some advice...#0
Posted: 8/24/04 at 10:01pm
Lately I have been having some different interests pop into my head. As much as I love and am fascinated by lighting design, stage management has been sparking my interests. I am always interacting with the performers, am very organized, like to be 'in-charge,' etc. Being a stage manager, I would get to do all of these things. Plus, I think I am only interested in the technical aspect of lighting. I have been telling everyone that I AM going to be a lighting designer. Whenever I am at the theatre, you will catch me looking up staring at the lights. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO! I really think stage management would be so much better for me and my talents.

I don't want this to sound stupid, but I think if you dedicate yourself, you can do it ALL. If stage managing is what you want, stage manage. If you want to be a lighting designer, be a lighting designer. Do it all. Be well-rounded. It can happen.

Is there a way you can be involved in both? Maybe have a co-stage manager and work on lights some days?

Okay, just making sure. I felt really bad there for a second because I couldn't help you more.

It is just frustrating. I have to learn not to worry so much and enjoy whatever I choose to do.

Oh BT11, you'll figure it out in time. Try both, see which one fits you the best, which one you enjoy that tiny bit more. No matter what suits your talents, you have to go with what you want more. You'll never be satisfied if you don't. I'm sure you have talents in both areas, and every aspect is important to a production so you can always try both at a time. Good luck with it though!
Joel: Nope. Osidius, right there, swoop and cross.
Clementine: Shut the fuck up!
