I think it's time for a history lesson. What exactly led to the downfall of the Broadway.com Message Boards? How many posters here were once posters there? But more importantly, was it less bitchy, as bitchy, or more bitchy as it is here???

I remember it being more bitchy. I was only a lurker there. I was shocked when it was closed though. I remember a lot of shills. I thought that the shills killed it in the end.

What is 'schills'?

And thanks for this thread, the broadway.com boards were before I became an internet-junkie, so I've always wondered about them.

A shill is a poster who is on a show's payroll. They come to message boards and try to promote their show. It gets annoying after a while.

I joined the board a while before it was shut down. I even became a 'Senior Member' there. It was a momentous occasion. However, I do remember quite a bit of bitchiness there. But it introduced me to Broadway message boarding in general. And for that, I will forever be thankful. I've learned a lot from these boards.

I was there on a different username.

It was get very heated and controversial over there. Several immature people (some of those immature people moved here, sadly) which caused the destruction of the boards.

But in the end, it was good. Without their demise, the BroadwayWorld.com boards may not be as popular as they are now.

I was a senior member too! Too much censorship caused the downfall.

Not to mention the fact that they banned our favorite poster...after that it was all downhill.

I was a senior member too! Too little censorship caused the downfall.

Also, like this current board, there were too many silly posts. At least Rob has the sense to create an off-topic board to alleviate that problem.

I was a senior poster there, with some 800 posts. I was BroadwayBret then. I was a member until Dollypop and I got kicked off for mass posting in rage (possibly something to do with the evil FPF?).

It was the age of kings.
The age of Namo
The age of DollyPop
The age of self inflated egos, specifically my own.
