But I need your faithful assistance. I'm a fifteen year old Alto with a reasonably well developed voice. My school is holding auditions for Beauty and the Beast and I'm going for Mrs. Potts. What would be a few choice songs? Thanks in advance!
"The stage is where I live and come alive and act out all the things that go on in my life. It's not just what I do for a living, it's my shrink and my love affair. No one in my life has ever or ever will kiss me on the mouth like this lover called my relationship with my performance."
bronxboundexpress, I'd like to see you do it. Then we could all laugh. By the way, what the hell is a caugh?

bronxbound, it's a school production. Who else do you think is going to play it? Have you never seen/heard of/participated in a school production? Kids play adult roles. Shocking to you?
Have I ever shown you my Shattered Dreams box? It's in my Disappointment Closet. - Marge Simpson
ummmm...good alto songs...idk if this would work, its kinda hard and its not really from a stage show but "over the rainbow". If you do it very well you'll blow em away. or you could try something upbeat (i say that cuz i know miss potts has that fun little bouncy section in Be Our Guest lol). My friend who is a good alto singer alwyas uses Adelaide's Lament which is slow in certain parts and fast in others and always gets the part she wants lol. Its from Guys and Dolls.
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

bronxboundexpress, it's not funny when there is talent. Anyone else?

Thanks very much you guys. I would still like to keep my options open, but I knew I could come here.
Even if it's not an alto song, that's okay. I just meant that is where I am most comfortable.

"No one is alone" from Into The Woods has a very maternal side to it. Just think of motherly characters and songs they sing, and also think of Potts's voice part. Break a leg!

Thanks insomniak! I'll post the second my name goes up. Ha. Right.

i suggest 'someone to watch over me' by gershwin. its not in any show i know of but its a pretty song, plus its got a decent range though it definately would flatter a lower voice...
1. By The Sea from Sweeney Todd...it's Sondheim which is sometimes discouraged from use at auditions, but it's peaceful, slow, soothing, and associated with Angela Lansbury (which is helpful and people will notice lol)
2. Dolly's parts in I Put My Hand In from Hello Dolly
3. Some People or Together Wherever we go from Gypsy
4. Meg's part of A Man Doesn't Know from Damn Yankees

I must admit on a website I saw someone audition for Catherine asking for suggestions and someone said this and I thought, well why not for Ms Potts? So I'm not quite as brilliant as my idea
