Ya know who did a lot more harm than good? Camryn Manheim.

She kept going on and on about fat girls because, YES, next to Lara Flynn Boyle, she looks to be the size of Everest.

Imagine my surprise when I saw her in person and found her to be, though a bigger girl, quite shapely. Though bigger, she seemed perfectly healthy and quite sexy.

But her proclaiming a win for the fat girls really did harm to those that are actually obese.

Robbalicious, you opened Pandora's Box -- I hear them rushing in now, all those "eating disorder" advocates. We're going to be subjected to 1000 posts about all their friends who have bulimia and all the binge and purge nightmares.

Bring it on, people, we're listening.
Stop worrying about what I'm doing -- focus instead on what you're eating.

Zolamomma,

BRING IT! I went to drama school. I'd say nearly 80% of the girls there developed some sort of disorder. I can take it!!

I threw up all my creatine shake with soy, my egg white omelette with broccoli and spinach, my ration of two strawberries, my scoop of cottage cheese and about 43 vitamins and other nutritional supplements. It looks like I loosened some of the botox too.

hiring. I also swiped my dance card once after an audition, and on a scale of one to ten, they gave me for dance: ten, for looks: THREE.

Oh robbie, to be honest, there were a fair share of the girls in SU drama (from '96-'00) that didn't have any eating disorders... that's for sure. Voluptuous, yet not overweight, lovely... quite yummy.... mmmm.... SU Drama.... mmmm....

You're talking about the musical theatre girls, aren't you?

We were known for our zaftig singing ladies.

I know a whole bunch of people from those years (even though I had already graduated).

We should compare notes.

I had 87 dollars in my pocket and seven years of tap and acrobatics. I could do a hundred and eighty degree split and come up tapping the Morse Code. Well, with that kind of talent I figured the Mayor would be waiting for me at Port Authority.

Love that quote robbiej
"All I ask of you is one thing: please don't be cynical. I hate cynicism -- it's my least favorite quality and it doesn't lead anywhere. Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you're kind, amazing things will happen." Conan O'Brien

I twirled a friggin' baton for two hours in the rain. Unfortunately though, she got knocked up over Christmas. Merry Christmas - and never made it back to Radio City.

Ahh A Chorus Line. What a lovely cast recording that is...

Hey, Queen Latifah is my fat IDOL... even though I'm not fat, she's still wicked cool.
What is Broadway? A street? Some say it's a street. Some say it is the best street in the world. Others think its terrible. That's the beauty of it, it's terribly beautiful. Some hate it and don't know why. Others love it and don't know why. That's what makes it so wonderful, it's a mystery.

Latifah is a great example of taking charge and getting a healthier existence. No, she didn't go down to size 0 - she got herself healthy for HER - and it shows re: fat activists protest diet industry

You know, I'm all for people being happy with themselves. If you like being overweight/obese/big-boned/whatever you want to call yourself, that's absolutely fine, but it can't possibly be healthy. Do you really want to take the risk of saying "maybe I won't be the person who has health problems as a result of my weight"? I wouldn't want to be that person.

Personally, I fit exactly into that lovely "weight bracket" they have for my age and height, but in my opinion, sure I'm not the thinnest, most toned girl you're going to find. I don't see anything wrong with charging people more because they need to take up two seats. I know that some people can't control their weight but that is a far way from being every overweight person you have out there. I was in Greece recently, and even to some extent when I was in England this happened also, and when you eat out there, you don't get half the crap they give you here. The portions are smaller, but they're enough to be filling. The people there don't seem to be hurting from it. I don't see why obesity shouldn't be considered a national issue.

You're all right, how often do you hear people complain about theater seats? I have an aunt who is very overweight and when myself, and another of my aunts took her to see Urinetown, her first complaint was the seat side to which my other aunt said to her, "It isn't their fault you're fat, these are made for average sized people." (I know that sounds horribly harsh and it was, but thats their relationship)

I see no reason why people who are overweight to the extent where it is proving annoying to the people around them, ie the person next to them at the theater or the plane, shouldn't have to pay a bit extra. Do you know how hard it was to sleep on the plane home from Greece because everytime the heavy woman next to me moved the arm rest moved and hit me? I just can't see how people think that's unfair.
And hang on, when did you win the discus?

I used to run one of the restaurants at the Grand Canyon, which meant we had about 60% international tourist trade - and the biggest complaint, BAR NONE, was the size of the portions we were serving. People were literally embarrassed at not being able to finish everything - which would inevitably lead to a rant about how everywhere they had been in America, they had been served obscene amounts of food. And this wasn't coming from one particular group of tourists, it was coming from everyone around the world. It seems as if Americans aren't satisfied unless they have enough to throw some away - I guess that way they feel like they've been given their money's worth, or something.
