The film was just on ABC. I have only seen bits and pieces, this is the first I have seen it in its entirety.

What a beautiful film this is!! And the score is absolutely lovely!
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

By the way, the movie is based on a novel entitled ROCKET BOYS.

"OCTOBER SKY" is an anagram of "ROCKET BOYS".

COINCIDENCE???????

Oh, he was in that? I completely don't remember. Or maybe he just wasn't that memorable. or maybe it's because I watched that movie on an airplane. Who knows.

I love this movie. It's a good movie, yes, and I appreciate it for that, of course, but then there's...

JAAAAAAAAAAAAKKKKKEEEEEE!!!!!

Oh my God.

And the thing is, I didn't know it was him in that movie until TONIGHT. I am ashamed of myself. But hey, I was 12 when the movie came out, and I did not know of the hotness that is Jake. Oh well.

I've read the book, too. I suggest you all go get a copy.
"And now for something completely different..."

its 'cause he just wasn't that memorable - did you see him in 'Day After Tomorrow' - that movie was awesome excluding him, they should have used someone less stale, more of an actor.

This is one of my "comfort movies" that I invariably watch, and love, every blessed time it's on TV. I don't remember it being in the theaters, and I suppose that it's not the kind of film that would draw a big "date night" crowd. But it really is one fine "little" film.

The only thing about OCTOBER SKY that I would change is in the end there when Cooper goes to put his arm around Jake. It looks like he's going to grab his ass. Watch it again, and you'll see what I'm talking about.

But then again, who can resist the allmighty Jake? I know I can't.
