I actually became bored for a few minutes while waiting for something to upload, hence this topic.

My 5:

5) THE IRON GIANT
4) BICENTENNIAL MAN
3) HOOK
2) FUNNY LADY
1) THE TRUMAN SHOW
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

I can think of one:

"The Alamo" which was released this past April. It was a very moving character/historical piece. Loved it. Cried each of the 10 times I saw it.
Where are we going, and why am I in this handbasket?

Don't know about 5, but 2 that leapt to mind (albeit, very different movies) are THE FISHER KING and OVERBOARD.

Boondock Saints! Wow, I forgot about that one.

Other notables (not sure if underrated, but certainly not mainstream):

- Lock, Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels
- Private Life of Sherlock Holmes - by Billy Wilder, a real gem
- The Court Jester ("yea, verily yea")
- The Wrong Box
- Without a Clue (Michael Caine plays Sherlock Holmes, had me in stitches)

Memento
Insomnia (some of the finest acting by Pacino in the last 20 years)
Being John Malkovich (critically lauded...but it should have won several Oscars)
Almost Famous (I went nuts when it surprisingly won best original screenplay)
Unbreakable

How exactly does The Truman Show qualify as an underrated movie? Amazing reviews and huge box office when it opened, it was a huge event at the time. To me, I think it's overrated as I thought the film was terrible and only became interesting about 3 minutes before it ended.
Nothing precious, plain to see, don't make a fuss over me. Not loud, not soft, but somewhere inbetween. Say sorry, just let it be the word you mean.

Not a big Truman show fan right here. I don't see how it is underappreciated either.

Have to agree about "Thirteen Conversations About One Thing." That was an amazing movie that very few people ever saw.

I absolutely loved it. I like movies that are, how shall I say it, ...cold. 13 Conversations did that for me. It was emotionally disconnected in a way. I almost felt like I had gone to a zoo. I hope that made sense.

Based on my personal experiences of people's distaste with the following...

1. Almost Famous
2. Say Anything...
3. Vanilla Sky
4. Chasing Amy
5. Baz Lurhman's (sp?) Romeo and Juliet

I consider The Truman Show to be underrated because whenever I mention that it's one of my favorite movies, everyone around me rolls their eyes.

I don't understand why Girl, Interrupted is underrated. It's my 5th favorite movie. Angelina won an Oscar, and the critics loved it.
I starred in a short film called Magnetic Personality. Check it out!
