I feel so silly. I had no idea Mr Shaiman wrote it.
That song cracks me up.
You guys really are clever.
But i refuse to kiss your butt.

First time I saw the movie, I haven't discovered the tv series yet, and was a big surprise.
I recommend the spanish (castillian) version of the movie too, the lyrics are even harder than in english!

I saw the movie and did not look at the credits.
The Blame Canada song is one of my favorites.
But Hairspray is one of my favorite shows.

ah, students...

SOUTH PARK was and is created by Trey Parker & Matt Stone

Trey Parker wrote the music and lyrics for the South Park movie

Marc Shaiman (that's me!) wrote additional music and lyrics

I also then scored the film

what this means is that Trey wrote a song and then handed it over to me to finish, fluff, add my own sickness to, etc

some songs were almost totally complete when I got them, others I am all over...then I got to arrange and orchestrate them into a tizzy

so...both Trey and I wrote both music & lyrics, and neither Matt Stone nor Scott Wittman co-wrote songs for the South Park movie, though "reporters" seem to never be able to get this right in articles...

p.s. Trey Parker is a ***ing genius who writes the scripts, music, lyric, drew the original animation, does most of the voices, plays piano and despite his wicked sense of humor is one of the sweetest guys I ever met...and shockingly for one so super talented, he is outrageously open to collaboration, thus giving me the best experience of my movie career...

You know... I've always wondered the level of Marc's involvement in that delightful movie. I'm so glad that he humors us with answers to our questions.

I hear the most of his hand in "Up There", along with the orchestration of the existing tune "Kyle's Mom is a Bitch". Let us not forget the "La Resistance" Medley...

The CD was part of my car's playlist throughout senior year of college. It wore out.

No doubt it's been mentioned before, but one Parker/Stone opus that really warrants a stage version is CANNIBAL: THE MUSICAL.

And Marc: whichever combination of you wrote WHAT WOULD BRYAN BOITANO DO deserved a heartful standing ovation. :)

I have it, and it does mention something on the wrapper about clips from a stage version, but I'll be darned if I can anything in the extras. I always thought it was one those "yeah, we're gonna do it, so we better mention it on the DVD" and then somehow they just never got around to it.

I think this is one of the funniest movies ever made. The music is amazing. Its so clever and even though its a parody, it has some really good songs in it. La Resistance and the song Satan sings are songs that could of come from a Broadway show. I wish there was some way this movie could work on stage but I think it would loose a lot of its charm and appeal if its not animated.

The movie was extremely clever and the songs were brilliant.
I remember everyone walking out of the theatre and singing....Blame Canada......lol. I think most Canadians liked that :)

La Resistance is a direct parody the Les Mis act one finale.
I also loved that I was the only one in the movie theatre who got it.
