Musicals on DVD#0

To bide my time during commercial, I thought I'd ask your opinions of what musicals are best on dvd. With things winding down at school, I'd like to show a musical. So, what do you think could enthrall the attention of a class of seventh and eighth graders?

Well, Little Shop of Horrors is a movie musical that was able to hold the attention of the eighth graders at my school. And if it works for my school, it'll work for anyone.

Well, considering the idiots in charge have only seen fit to release about 5 broadway shows on vhs/dvd (not including those concerts) you have

CATS
SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE
SWEEENEY TODD
INTO THE WOODS
JOSEPH...
JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR

and maybe one or two more to choose from. God forbid they make an obscene amount of money by releasing their stuff for the public to see so that they can have great quality PROFESSIONAL versions of their shows. God forbid, I tell you!

Who's attention would THAT hold? (David Hasslehoff in anything, let alone Heckle and Jeckle...LOL)
"I don't really get the ending, all i can go with is when after several months,Judith saw Pat sang, and later she kissed him on the toilet, after that the story back to where Pat went down from the stage after he'd sung, and he went to the italian lady.I just don't get it,what Judith exatcly meant when he kissed Pat that she had seen, and did Pat end up together with The Italian Lady? Please help me,thank u very much!" Quote from someone on IMDB in reference to a movie he/she didn't understand. Such grammar!

That was a great dvd! I loved seeing Hasselfoff running across the stage in slow motion with his surfboard. "LUUUUUUCCCYYYYYY!"

PETER PAN is also on DVD. Not sure if it would uphold interest, though.
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

No matter what, don't underestimate your kids. See how they respond to the wit of Rex Harrison and the warmth of Audrey Hepburn in MY FAIR LADY...
...or if the spiritual themes aren't an issue, how about the StoryTheatre aspects of GODSPELL...
...or the rustic hijinks (and political incorrectness) of SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS...
...or the cross-cultural glories of THE KING AND I...
...or the fashion, style and sheer fun of FUNNY FACE...
...or the fantasy of MARY POPPINS...
...or the not-really-a-musical-but-deals-with-the-gestalt of CAMP
...and, finally, if you have to scrape the bottom of the barrel, there's always...
...FROM JUSTIN TO KELLY...

My three favorites have not been mentioned!
  1. Grease
  2. Bye, Bye Birdie!
  3. The Music Man

I assume that they're on DVD, but I don't actually know. Perhaps that's why they haven't been mentioned?
I starred in a short film called Magnetic Personality. Check it out!

How about Newsies? My old high school choir director said it kept the eighth grade choir quiet for a couple days.
