Posted: 6/4/03 at 1:01amIs there a definition of "Summer Stock" productions? Is it somehow tied into Broadway, or can it relate to any regional theatre's offering during the summer anywhere in the country?
My perfect day would begin at on the beach in Hana, Maui and end at a Broadway Musical.

Summer Stock are the shows that we actors do and people go to strictly in the summer. Basically Summer Seasons, or such, were people generally go away from home to work in the summer.

In the old days before air conditioning, Broadway used to shut down in the summer. So the actors left NY and went to small towns to do theater. Summer stock grew out of this and the term refers to all those theater companies that have summer schedules. Many companies do musicals in a very hasty fashion. Usually two weeks of rehearsal which is very fast and furious.
The term now applies to any theater that has a summer schedule, but especially to all those small theaters in barns, schools and town halls that only do a summer schedule.
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.
