I have to plan a Tony party with Broadway inspired food. Any ideas anyone? My mind is balnk although I'm sure there are lots of foods associated with shows.

So far the only things that come to mind are Sweeny Tood-meat pies and Gypsy-Chinese

You may want to consider some of the foods mentioned in the song "Be Our Guest" from Disney's Beauty and The Beast. This should allow you to add a few things to your menu: beef ragout, cheese souffle', pie and pudding "en flambe", bread, soup, croutons, "singing" pork, "dancing" veal, and tea!

Weenie-beanie casserole. Pigs-in-blankets. Ambrosia.

Serve it in a fondue pot in front of a lava lamp! NOW!

I resent the use of the word box in your post. I'm going to complain to the BWW police.

Let's start with Rodgers & Hammerstein:

Oklahoma - picnic baskets to be auctioned off

Carousel - a real nice clam bake

State Fair - mince meat pie with extra brandy in it

South Pacific - Bloody Marys and beetle nuts

King & I - Thai food

Flower Drum Song - Chop Suey!

Sound of Music: Crisp apple strudel, schnitzel with noodles

Listen to that "Food, Glorious Food" song from "Oliver!"
I remember something about peas and pudding...
But you could always just serve gruel (ewww. nevermind, bad idea).

"A Part of That" from "Last 5 Years"
Jamie goes through "handful after handful of Doritos"

"Wouldn't It Be Loverly" from "My Fair Lady".
Eliza sings "Lots of chocolates for me to eat."

"You're the Top" from "Anything Goes"
Has the lines "you're... tomato ketchup"
and "you're a Caesar salad"

"Prologue" from "Into the Woods"
- Little Red Riding Hood asks, "and perhaps a sticky bun... Or four... And a few of those pies, please"
- Cinderella's Stepmother empties a pot of lentils into the ashes
- The Witch's garden contains "Greens, greens, and nothing but greens. Parsley, peppers, cabbages, and celery, asaparagus, and watercress, fiddle ferns, and lettuce", as well as rutabaga, arugula, and rampion.
- Jack's magic beans.

"It Sucks to Be Me" from "Avenue Q"
Christmas Eve "try to work in Korean deli"

"When You're Good to Mama" from "Chicago"
Mama sings "If you want my gravy, pepper my ragu."

"And the Gods Heard Her Prayer" from "Once on This Island"
The Gods talk about hitting a girl with "a juicy mango"

"No One Mourns the Wicked" from "Wicked"
Baby Elphaba is compared to "a froggy ferny cabbage"

And if things get desparate, you can always bring out the pretzels and beer in honor of "Springtime for Hitler" from "The Producers". That should be a crowd-pleaser.

There are quite a few great ideas here. Although I wouldn't serve some of the things eaten in Broadway shows (gruel, peas and pudding? yuck) but, variations on the foods will work. Thanks for the ideas.

I want to tie in as many current nominated shows as I can with some things as a salute to past Broadway classics. We will be having a green elixir (vodka and Green Apple Pucker) because the party will mainly focus on celebrating the nominations of my friends show.....I can't even say the name anymore.

About a zillion years ago, I was in a production of South Pacific in the annual spring musical. We took the theme of the "Thanksgiving Specialties" number and for one of the cast parties had a Thanksgiving Dinner complete with turkey, dressing, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes and we even pulled out the Pilgrim Salt and Pepper shakers. In May!! It was a huge success.
