What did you guys think of the B'way revival of "The Rocky Horror Show"?

I personally adored the show. I saw it ten times (through almost every major cast change), and every time, it was a fun, scandalous, and exhilerating evening. It compared very favorably to the film.

The entire cast was brilliant (even if it was different each time I saw it). Tom Hewitt was very deserving of his Tony nomination.

While the original cast was flawless, many of the replacements (especially Terry Mann, Luke Perry, Ana Gasteyer, Sebastian Bach, and Kristin Lee Kelly as Janet) worked beautifully. Who knew that Dylan from 90210 sang so well?

Any other opinions? Updated On: 5/26/04 at 01:55 PM

I enjoyed it very much! I had two understudies when I saw it, Dr.Scott was a guy and Hewitt was out and both guys were great. But it was so cool to see Daphne, Ana and Alice up close (although I saw more of Alice than I wanted)! I still have my boas re: Opinions of 'Rocky Horror'?

I didn't see it (love the movie, though), but the PBS portion of the Tonys that year showed Tom Hewitt getting into costume and talking about how his was a more "masculine/muscular" take on the role than Tim Curry's interpretation. It made me want to see it, although the show was either in the process of closing or had closed. I made a point of catching Tom in the "Urinetown" tour--he was hilarious. I will definitely see "Dracula" based on Tom being in the title role.

Well, I saw the show 69 times and loved each and every one of them. I have to say I enjoyed Mann more than Hewitt, though. He was so much more fun and a lot more interactive with the audience. I really adored KLK also, when she took over as Janet. Of course she went on for Alice so much she practically originated the role.
Everyone there was so much fun and loved the audience so much, especially the AMAZING JONATHAN SHARP. I can't say enough good things about this man. Anyone that has ever been around him knows that that show would not have been the same without him. I really do miss that show. re: Opinions of 'Rocky Horror'?

I enjoyed it VERY VERY much

I loved the entire Original Cast of the Revival, but some of the replacements were GREAT. Luke Perry was surprisingly good, and I was there one night when Terry Mann just simply stopped the show in what can only be called one of those "great moments" seeing it live

Of course, it was the launching point for Esparza here in NYC, & he was the most outstanding RIFF RAFF

But it was FUN FUN FUN every time

I was a RHPS virgin the first time I saw it and was a little nervous walking into the theater I must admit. I saw it with Terrance Mann and Sebastian Bach once.I loved it.Second time an understudy show. I did however get to see Jarrod, Alice, Daphne, and that is where I fell in love with Matt Morrison. What a fun show!!!! A few other ensemble standouts but right now I can't recall the names. I still have daydreams of Matt in those leather pants...yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmy!

A friend and I saw him at Hairspray way back during previews.
He was with his wife, it was when he had long hair.
Didn't approach him or anything, but I'm still licking my lips thinking about him......

Well I had never thought Luke Perry could sing actually...but if it worked for you, great! re: Opinions of 'Rocky Horror'?

I saw the show way too many times...close to 3 digits. I thought each cast was great for different reasons...but my personal favorite was when Gilbert Gottfried was in. The man had everyone in absolute hysterics and he couldn't have been nicer after the show.

I miss a lot of the ensemble members quite a bit...James Stovall, Kevin Cahoon, Jon Sharp, Aiko...etc. I personally LOVED James's version of Dr. Scott with his high screetches.

It was a fun show...and I do miss many of the people.

It was fun. I thought Tom Hewitt was great and stood out from the others (he does the same on the 'Urinetown' tour.) Raul and Daphne were a lot of fun together. I missed Jarod Emick seeing his understudy once (bad) and Luke Perry once (he was fine) but I didn't like Alice Ripley either time I saw her, she seemed like an unfun person trying to appear like she was able to be wild too. (And before the 45 Alice fans tell me I'm wrong and that she was both awesome and amazing: I don't care what you think.)

But to me, any show which ends with Dick Cavett giving an audience member the finger is worth 50 bucks!

broadway86- thats funny that you bring up the topic of Rocky Horror, lately I've been listening to the soundtrack of the revival cast. Right now I have "Late night double feature.." stuck in my head!! Never seen the show though...

I never saw the New York revival but would have loved to. Once upon a time, way back when, I did see the original London production (post original cast re: Opinions of 'Rocky Horror'?)and have the original London cast recording...unfortunately it's on vinyl and I have nothing to play it on. I loved the show. Lots of campy fun.

my school went to a preview show of it (yes, my school is dysfunctional like that) and i loved every minute of it including the floor show outfits that were changed before opening (ours were covered in stuffed hands)

I SOOO remember the red rubber stuffed hands!!

I, personally, adored the revival.

I will say, though, that MY 'Rocky' will always be John jeffrey Martin. he was without a doubt my favorite in that role. Tom Hewitt was a gem and I adored Jarrod and Alice as Brad and Janet and Kristen Lee Kelly as Columbia.

I liked Deidre Goodwin as Magenta more than Daphne.....

I wished I could have seen Denise Sommerford as Janet as well..

Speaking of Sebastian Bach, he's very funny on The Gilmore Girls as the aging rocker in Lyng's band.

I loooooved it. I only say it 3 times though. I also thought Terrence Mann was better than Tom Hewitt but both were excellent. Actually, one time I also saw Mark Price as Riff Raff and he was excellent, I loved him and I'm picky on my Riff Raff because he's my favorite character.

And hang on, when did you win the discus?

i thought the revival was poooooorly directed after the first 15 mins. the opening was awesome (seats and all) and after that it was like "yea, go run wild".
i am a huge terrence mann fan, but we ended up calling him terrence mann-ley after his poor display of femininity. also hated how the dress and heels were shown before they should have been. the ensemble was fun & alice was wrong as janet.

But I won't live alone in a house of regret.
