Is Bernadette still a shoo-in?

At...the other, humorless, sexless, Broadway mesage board, where IF you differ with opinion, or like other things besides broadway musicals or can't understand why they did'nt cast Gewn Verdon in the film version of "Chicago" even though the many reason are obvious..

.. they blight you...

...they seem convinced that even though Marissa defeated her at the Drama Desks and even though she's been out sick many times and in the last week, has sounded scratchy and undervoiced ...

they believe that Bernadette will still win the TONY!?!?

I don't get it?

Does everyone here think that as well?

Opinions, please?

I think marissa has a VERY VERY good chance of pulling out a win. She has already beat the Bern-ster once and just going by the reviews, Marissa got all raves, bernadette's were very mixed. Tony voter's like to disguis a 'lifetime achievement awrad' in a best lead tony, even if the perofmer was sub-par in the nominated role, but they also love a 'newcomer' -- daisy egan and Sutton Foster for example. Most people have generally the same reaction to Marissa as Tracy that they did to Sutton as millie -- peefect actor in the perfect role. You also have to admit that there is a very drastic difference between Marisa and Tracy and she pulls off the character wonderfully.

Where did you get the idea that she is a shoo in? I never have got that opinion.

If anyone is close to being a shoo in that would be Marissa. BP absences have hurt her chances greatly.

I am in the process of stuffing the ballot box....MARISSA is it!
Tony Voters are 'exhausted' about the Bernadette saga's!
New -- Fresh -- and Big -- are Max's words d'jour!

If I am wrong...Dom Perignon for all!

I don't think she ever was a "shoo-in." Marissa has been giving her a run for her money. Obviously I am routing for Bernadette, but I'm not going to start a message board protest or start ranting like a lunatic if Marissa wins.

My whole theory is that the Tony's are very political (much like the Oscars). They may give it to Bernadette because, mixed reviews or not, she does a phenominal job in Gypsy; and she has made reference that it may be her last Broadway show (yeah, and Barbra's really finished with concerts).

As much as the voters do like new-comers, they gave it to a new-comer (Sutton Foster) last year....though she clearly deserved it. They may go for the veteran vote this year...but I think Bernadette and Marissa are both very deserving.

I'm surprised that Bernadette has made reference to this (Gypsy) being her last Broadway show...any more info on that? When/in what context did she say it? To an interviewer or an off-hand remark afetr a show when she was tired?

I don't remember exactly when or where. She never said, "Oh, this is it for me." or "After this I'm not doing anymore Broadway shows." She just has made it seem like she would really have to consider (more than she usually would) the next role she would take on.

Then again, perhaps she just doesn't want to do anymore revivals. I know she prefers new shows.

Please, I hope she never retires! It's just not Broadway without Bernadette!

I personally, would like to see Winokur win.

Is this REALLY Bernadette's last show or will she be the Micheal Jordan of Broadway??
