idk if i particularly WANT to know what happened afterwards. like, i like happy endings, and i don't like to know what happens afterwards. am i the only one who feels this way?
Nope. I agree. RENT would be followed by a not-to-happy ending, but that's not the way Jonathan Larson wanted it. He wanted it to inspire, not depress.
Its definetly one of those musicals your not supposed to know what happens after. I thikn that was John Larsons intention completely. Its up to the person seeing/listening to decide what happened after.
I agree that it's one of those things that doesn't have a happy ending, but you can think about it. I think that Joanne and Maureen would break up, and Maureen would go back to Mark. I don't even want to think about the Mimi/Roger issue.
At the end, April wakes up in the bathroom. She didn't slit her wrists at all, the entire evening was a dream. She laughs, because she hates musicals. "Leave it to me to have a dream where everybody breaks into song."
Benny has them all arrested by the police and demolishes their building to build Yuppie condos. Then they have to move to a bad neighborhood in the Bronx and a Starbucks is built on Avenue B where the Life Cafe once stood.
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.
i believe RENt is the perfect play for the 1990s for every aspect of the play. Great story and the ending has been beautiful all 4 times i've seen it
