I agree with you Balladeer. I will add one name to Phantom5's already great list...Orfeh. I don't think that lady *has* a mix. She's all belt. Lupone, singing "New Argentina" is still the all time greatest moment of high belting I've heard. Jennifer Holliday has a deep, astounding belt as well.
You like my list Al Dente.....Thanks!!! I agree with you in your thoughts on Patti LuPone's belting....I have always thought that her belt is in a way...The belt to end all belts, hahaha!!!
See Ya Later!

Mixing is when you blend together your legit/head voice with your belt... it's what most singers do when there's need to 'belt' in a higher register that passes their comfortable belting 'zone'... or for different dynamics in a song. It's basically what it sounds like... a mixture of the two. LOL. It's kind of like a more forced head sound... whereas a belt is full out chest sound.

Are you a singer DD? Because you sure do have a great deal of info on something that is completely lost on most. Thanks for the clarification, nontheless.
I agree Rob, for me it's all about what my ears respond to.I'm not much for an explanation on technique, as I don't care but even with my limited knowledge (as compared to DD), i'd have to say that there's no way Lupones ever "mixed" anything. I'm also pretty sure that Ripley and Murney are always mixing. But again, I'm going on sound.

yes and thats the beauty of it, if we can sit here and argue that there's no way in hell patti mixes anything means she's doing something right! (or wrong since she always blows her voice!) but that leads me to think she NEVER mixes, how do you blow your voice mixing??
my gf actually belts the line "and here am I full of life that her child wil fell WHEN I'M LONG GOOOOOONE!" in "the story goes on from baby" while liz definately mixes. I THOUGHT i was able to tell the difference. My gf can belt up to a F or G with "Maybe This Time" Liza's version, so this all can be done, I mean listen to Linda Eder, does she sing anything below F?
so when i hear Rainbow High New Argentina The Life of The Party She's Gone Vienna
I think ain't no way they're mixing
I think the queen of mixers is Julia Murney. She's got an insane vibratto which i love. So unique!
and i suppose delores hall is mixing 24 hours of lovin on the best little whorehouse cast album, that must be the craziest loudest song EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Was listening to Closer Than Ever today and want to add Lynne Wintersteller to the list! I thoroughly enjoy her song about the Bear, Hamster, and Tiger, or whatever it's called about Men and Women and mating! It's funny and she sounds great, even if it is sounds like it's from the 80's!
Is Lorna a blonde now? I think she is a great singer. When Liza hosted the Tony's a few years ago, Lorna blew Liza out of the water when they sang together.
